I’d hoped asking Rhiucra about this would make me feel less insane, but now, I’m not so sure. I don’t think it was a dream, not really. It doesn’t make any sense that it would be.

But the darkness I saw in Rhiucra’s face doesn’t make sense, either, and I’m filled with the inexplicable feeling that before too long, I’ll have answers to my many questions.

Whether I want them or not.

LUOCRE

“How much fucking longer?” I snarl at the empty air, my magic weaving through like it’s searching for her. “He’s as boring as a rock!” I throw a hand up and accidentally damage the wall next to the door as a spout of energy leaves my palm. Oops.

I don’t fucking care.

I’m too pissed to give a shit, especially knowing a woman who should bemineis out there with my gods forsaken brother right now!

I pace back and forth in Neveah’s room, my blood boiling more and more by the minute. I ought to eliminate him, give her no one else to spend time with! That is what Rhiucra deserves for coming near her.

The longer I have to wait for her to come back, the more I am convinced that I am going to have to go out there and get her. I’ll drag her away. Maybe I’ll even make a show of who she belongs to before I do.

I’m still storming from wall to wall, considering what I should do when I hear the door nudge open. I spin around, my fury so potent as it whips up my body that I know Neveah must feel it in the air.

She steps into the room, her hand cupped full of what looks like little dried bits of food, and opens her mouth to speak. But whatever she was about to say doesn’t come out when she sees me, jumping and sending what I recognize as treats for an animal across the ground.

“Holy shit!” she gasps, pressing a hand to her chest. I only grin in response, the fear that flickers across her face like a balm to my anger.

Until I remember where she’s coming back from. Then I have half a mind to lock her in this room, mark her as mine, and never let her go.

“What the fuck are you doing in here?” she huffs as she scrambles for the pieces scattered, scooping them up and dumping them on a table in the corner. “You can’t just barge into people’s rooms!”

Neveah brushes off the front of her clothes, straightening her outfit and touching her hair as she tries to put herself together. She’s still struggling to catch her breath, even as she glares in my direction.

Try as she might to hide it, I can still feel the fear coming off of her.

I take a few steps forward, and instantly, that bravery vanishes. Neveah’s eyes go wide as she scrambles back, but she only manages to pin herself to the wall. Even better for me.

“Can’t I?” I coo as I take away the last of the space and her only chance at escape. “I’m here, aren’t I?”

Neveah sputters at that, unable to put together a coherent protest as I slam my palms into the stone wall on either side of her head and lean in. I dip my head down until we’re almost touching, my little liar craning her head back to stare up at me.

“You shouldn't be,” she gasps out.

My lips curl up, and I notice the flush that starts up her skin. Fear and rage might be the only emotions she wants me to see, but her arousal is so easily evident.

“And why not?” I lean closer so that my lips are next to her ear. “You don’t want me here? Are you afraid, little liar?”

I can hear her gulp, and I tilt my head so that my nose brushes the outside of her ear. She smells so good and I can’t help but run my tongue up the shell, needing to taste her again.

Neveah tries and fails to bite back a whimper. “Should I be?”

I chuckle deeply. I don’t mind the way she’s trying to change direction. I pull back to look into her impossibly green eyes, wide as she takes me in. “You should always be afraid when I’m near. I’m going toruinyou.” I flash her a smile that looks more terrifying than joyful.

But her tongue swipes out across her bottom lip as her eyes flick down and back up, and even as she fights to swallow, I don’t detect any fear.

Only desire.

“What’s your name?” she says in a rush.

The question catches me off guard and I lean back a little, cocking an eyebrow. “What?”
