Every part of my brain knew I should probably let that one go. I was a twenty-seven-year-old man holding a grudge against another driver for something I didn’t even understand. I wasn’t completely sure of what their relationship had been, but Éliott had once let it slip to me a couple of years ago that he and Georgia hadbrieflydated.

As we arrived at the club, there were photographers and fans everywhere. Henri, Lily, Georgia, and I crawled out of the limo, and I wrapped my arm around Georgia’s waist and pulled her close to me, smiling and waving to the fans as we walked into the club. The club coordinator met us at the door and shuffled us into the VIP suite that had been reserved for the drivers, their partners, and a few others who were invited. I saw Éliott seated in the back with Noah Hendriks and his girlfriend. As soon as we walked in, Éliott got up and started walking over to Georgia and me.

“Good race over there, Georgie!” Éliott called out, bringing Georgia into his embrace. He then grabbed my hand and shook it, pulling me in for a hug as well.

“Congrats, Luca, winning at home is an absolute dream. Let’s hope we get to see it next week with one of our favorite twins,” he added cheekily.

Georgia just slapped his shoulder playfully, batting her eyelashes at him a bit too much for my liking.

“It’s not anifÉliott. Iamwinning next week’s race, and I don’t care if it means my brother will never talk to me again.” She stuck her tongue out at Henri, who returned the gesture.

I leaned over to Georgia to let her know that I would grab us some drinks, then made my way down towards the bar. I knew Georgia liked champagne with Chambord, so I ordered her one of those and me a glass of champagne. When I came back up the stairs, Georgia and Éliott were sitting together, chatting about something. They looked slightly deep in thought together – Georgia’s eyebrows were furrowed as if she was explaining something intense to Éliott.

An immediate pang of hurt hit me, one that I knew was unjust. Every part of me wished that Georgia trusted me like that, but I knew why she didn’t. I wouldn’t trust playboy Luca Rossi, either. It was petty of me to go over to where the two of them sat. I knew I shouldn’t barge into their private conversation, but I was the race winner. For once, I had achieved my dream, and if I wanted to spend it withmy girlfriend, I was going to – even if the relationship was fake. But God, part of me wished it wasn’t.

“Your drink, Georgie,” I said with a big smile, making eye contact with Éliott as I sat down next to Georgia. There was a slightly uncomfortable silence, but she turned and gave me a smile and a nod.

“Thanks, Flash.” At hearing the nickname, I immediately perked up a bit. Her dress had a fairly high neck, but as I looked down to her chest, I saw the small gleam of the necklace I had given her on Friday. Before I could stop myself, I grabbed the necklace softly from inside her dress and pulled it out, putting it on display.

She quirked an eyebrow at me, clearly not amused with my action.

“Don’t want anyone to get any ideas,” I grinned. Georgia just rolled her eyes and turned back to Éliott, asking him about his race, making a clear effort to ignore me.

Fine, two can play at that game.

I got up as Éliott began to answer and sauntered over to Oliver and his girlfriend, Lisa.More of the drivers began to arrive, and as the clock reached 10:30, the dance floor opened up with a new D.J.

I was back at the bar, getting another drink, when I saw Éliott and Georgia move to the dance floor. The dancing looked innocent enough, but still, anyone could misinterpret their innocent dancing for something more. I felt anger start to rise inside of me. For someone so worried about losing her seat, Georgia had no problem putting the entire plan at risk by dancing with a driver that the press was convinced was an ex-boyfriend. I couldn’t tear my eyes off the two of them, and as I saw Éliott get a little closer to her, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I took my eyes off Georgia and Éliott for just a moment, only to see a beautiful woman standing next to me, a large grin on her face.

“Buy me a drink?” Her voice was silky and smooth, and if she had approached me a month ago, I would have undoubtedly gone home with her.

“Sure,” I said with a smirk and called over the bartender, ordering me another beer and her a martini. As soon as our drinks arrived, I felt her hand on my arm, squeezing my muscles underneath my shirt as she tried to flirt with me. I immediately pulled my arm back, slightly annoyed by the presumption that she could touch me. As soon as I pulled back, I saw Georgia’s stare meet mine, and I knew she had seen it; something like jealousy passed on her face, quickly disappearing as she turned back to her conversation. A small grip of pleasure washed over me, and I leaned in slightly closer to the woman, returning my gaze to hers.

Fortunately for me, before I could do something stupid like ask the woman to dance, Henri approached the two of us. Unsurprisingly, Hermes’ golden boy had an incredibly disapproving look on his face.

“Do you mind if I get a word in with my teammate?” The woman looked at me for approval, as if silently begging for me to tell Henri to piss off –which part of me wanted to– but I didn’t. Instead, I let her walk away in a huff as I steadied myself. I knew I should thank Henri for saving me from that reckless move I was about to make. It didn’t matter how jealous I was of Georgia and Éliott – dancing with a random woman who had made it into the VIP section was a much worse decision than Georgia dancing with a childhood friend.

“Thought you were supposed to be dating my sister?” Henri hissed; his eyes were laced with anger.

“I thought the same thing, but Georgia and Éliott don’t seem to remember that,” I snarked back at him.

In Henri's eyes, his friend Éliott could do no wrong.Neither could Georgia.Henri just rolled his eyes at my comment with a look that said I was the stupidest person in the room.

“Nothing is going on between Georgia and Éliott, you know that. They’re just friends, always have been.” I gave Henri a look that said,‘How stupid are you?’before scoffing in disbelief.

“Friends that fuck more like it.” I hated myself the moment the words left my mouth. Henri’s eyes went wide, and for a moment, I could see the wheels turning in his head, as if he was replaying hundreds of conversations that he had witnessed between his sister and best friend. Henri turned back to Georgia and Éliott, who were now chatting away back at their original booth, and it’s like a lightbulb went off in his head.

Well, now, at least I’m not the only miserable one here, I thought to myself. It was an atrocious move on my part, but I was drunk, frustrated, andjealous.

Henri stormed over to where Georgia was sitting and plopped down, looking her straight in the eyes. I’m not sure what he said to her because I was out of earshot, but I could see Éliott’s face go pale, and he looked at me, anger laced in his expression. Georgia exchanged a few more words with Henri and then got up, storming her way over to me.

“We’re leaving,” she demanded. Georgia grabbed my hand, and we rushed towards the club entrance, not giving me a chance to say goodbye to the group. Edward and Oliver whistled and cheered on our way out, no doubt hoping our rushed exit was because I was getting laid.

I knew I had something much worse in my future.
