But I didn’t care. I was a race winneragain. I was top of the championship, and nothing could ruin my moment, not even Anthony.

As if on cue, I saw Anthony begin to walk towards us, hand in hand with his girlfriend Anna, followed by Edward and Lauren. I remembered Anna from the many races that she had attended back in America. Anthony had insisted that she was only a friend, but it was clear that my gut was correct.

I felt Luca lean in closer as he grabbed my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. When Lauren and I made eye contact, she ran over to me and gave me a huge squeeze.

“So glad I made it today!” Lauren squealed. “You were on fire!”

“Thanks, Lauren. It was an absolute dream of a race. The car felt incredible underneath me.”

As soon as Anthony had moved out of earshot, Lauren leaned in. “We had to have dinner with Anthony this evening. What an actual bore. How did you manage to date that guy?” I gave her a chuckle as I shifted my weight back and forth at the uncomfortable question.

“What can I say? I was young and stupid.”

“And his girlfriend Anna? She acts like he’s already an F1 driver, walking around with the most pompous attitude. I’m not sure who’s more boring, him or her. If I hear one more comment about her social media, I am going to lose my mind.” Lauren kept droning on and on about them. Her loyalty made me feel warm inside, but I put my hand up, motioning for her to stop.

“I appreciate the camaraderie, but let’s not let them ruin our incredibly fun night, hmm?” Luca and Edward had come back from the bar with several glasses of champagne.

“Absolutely!” Lauren said, clinking her glass with mine.

As the night carried on and drinks continued to flow, I excused myself and made my way to the bathroom. As I came out of the restroom, I ran into a stiff body. Jumping back, I went to mumble an apology, only to see Anthony standing in front of me.

“Well, well, well, no bodyguard here to protect you?” Anthony asked, hinting at the fact that Henri, Luca, and Oliver had spent the entire night with me, not letting Anthony get close.

“Don’t be silly, Anthony. I’m the one guarding them.”

“Whatever, Georgia. You think I can’t see through your sham of a relationship with that Italian. Please, we dated for eighteen months, and you never once posted about our relationship on your social media pages. I know you’re just using Luca for his fame and money.”I was a little taken aback by Anthony’s accusation. I had told Lizzie that posting on social media would cause alarm from people who knew me or people who had followed me for a long time, but I was quickly shut down.

And yet, here was Anthony, literallycalling it as he saw it.

I tried to hide the shock on my face –probably not very well– as I attempted to move around Anthony, ignoring his last comment. Anthony shuffled in front of me, blocking the path back to the dance floor.

“Maybe I never posted about our relationship on social media because it wasn’t worth posting about,” I shot back, attempting to move around him, but Anthony just kept moving in front of me. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“Oh yeah, what does Luca have that I don’t?” he demanded.

“Loyalty,” I shot back.

Before Anthony could continue on, I felt a hand reach out to me. Luca was now standing in front of me, pushing Anthony to the side.

“Amore, I’ve been looking for you. Edward is demanding a group photo, you know what he’s like. Oh, Anthony, maybe you could take it for us?” Luca’s tone was condescending, and I knew he was hinting at the fact that the photo was only for F1 drivers. Anthony backed up a bit, sizing up the two of us before walking back to the table, completely ignoring Luca’s request.

“You okay?” Luca asked, concern laced in his eyes.

“Fine, fine. Anthony just accused us of being fake, so I feel a bit shaken.” Luca nodded warily, pulling me closer into a hug. I hated to admit it, but the smell of him and his warmth made me feel more relaxed. Apparently, being in Luca’s arms had that effect on me these days.

“Well, then, let’s go show him how wrong he is.” Luca grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dance floor next to Éliott, who was dancing with Lily. Edward and Lauren joined us as soon as we entered the dance floor. Luca pulled me in close, letting our bodies sway to the beat of the music. I wrapped my arms around his neck, letting the front of my body rest against his. The more we danced, the more I could feel the front of his pants getting harder, and I grinned as Luca brought our faces closer for a kiss.

Luca spun us around, and my eyes caught Anthony’s. He was standing at the edge of the dance floor with Anna, who was scrolling through her phone, no doubt picking a photo to put on social media. I let a smirk cross my lips as our eyes met and winked at Anthony before turning back to Luca and giving his plump lips a deep kiss. Luca reciprocated the kiss and pulled me even closer to him, still swaying to the beat of the music. I could feel Anthony’s eyes burning into the back of my head.

Good, let him see what he is missing.

“Get a room, you guys!” I heard Edward call out as Éliott and Lily whistled at us.

Luca leaned down and whispered into my ear, “Anthony might have missed out on being with you, but tonight, I fully intend to make sure I don’t.”
