Once Georgia left the room, I got up to shut the door to my office. Fiona still had a stunned look on her face.

“That is not quite how I expected the conversation to go,” Fiona lamented. I turned from the door and smirked at her, shaking my head with disappointment.

“Oh, Fiona, you’ve been in love with your husband for so long, you forgot what it looks like to beyoungand in love,” I quipped. I emphasized ‘young,’ earning a scoff from Fiona.

“They don’t act in love.”

“Oh, but they do, in their own way,” I confirmed.

“So why try and end the PR stunt if they aren’t miserable?”

“Because I’m tired of paying for it.” Fiona let out a chuckle as she shook her head in disbelief. “And I am tired of watching them play the‘will they, won’t they game’ as you Brits say. I never told you this, but Éliott’s manager was the first to offer this agreement to us, with Georgia and Éliott.”

“Oh?” Fiona questioned.

“I turned them down. I suspect there is a history between those two, a history that needed to stay settled in the past. Plus, I felt like there was another driver more suited for her – someone better.”

“And Luca was the answer you came up with?” Fiona laughed in disbelief.

“All of these boys, these drivers, they’re all suave in their own way. You can’t be a Formula 1 driver without some finesse, you’d never get enough money to get through Formula 3 and 2. Any one of them would have helped Georgia during press conferences, but you know why I chose Luca? I knew he’d give her something more. I knew he would challenge Georgia. I knew he wouldn’t back down from a fight – or her snarky attitude. Georgia would get as good as she gave with Luca.”

The two of them, they remind me of Francesco and me. I hated Francesco when we first met. He was a cocky Italian man who thought he was God’s gift to aerodynamics. But as time went on, I saw a different side of him, and I fell in love.” As I finished my little speech, I saw Fiona shift in her seat as she contemplated my words.

“You knew full well that Georgia wouldn’t agree to end this relationship early?” Fiona was now cackling to herself as the weight of what I had shared with her finally set in.

“I am merely allowing them to confess their feelings, make this real. Georgia was right; it would be terrible for them to break up now, but this weird limbo they’re in, it’s not healthy.”

“Well, let’s hope your plan works. What if Luca wants out?” Fiona asked.

“Please, he wants out less than Georgia does. Francesco said he literally stormed out of the conference room, yelling about how stupid this was.”

“Isabelle, you are quite possibly sneakier than our little prankster Georgia.”

“I suspect by Friday we’ll have a list of demands from the two of them.” I sat back in my seat, fumbling with my pen.

“Well, for the team’s sake, I hope this plays out quickly. A grumpy Georgia is a nightmare.”

“All in good time, my friend.” And with that, Fiona exited my office, still shaking her head at me.

THE LADY DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH

Lily

As soon as Georgia left her driver’s room, I pulled out my phone and opened my text thread with Edward. Georgia was out of her mind if she thought that Luca wanted to break up. I had seen Luca and Georgia together countless times; he was clearly in love with her, and I suspected she wasn’t too far behind.

Lily: I’m going to assume that you’ve heard about the ‘breakup?’

Edward: Luca hasn’t stopped whining to me.

Lily: I wish they saw what everyone else saw. It’s quite clear that they’re both becoming smitten with one another.

Lily: Well, Luca was already smitten… but it’s safe to say Georgia has joined him. Not an ounce of reasoning to be had with her, she’s convinced that Luca will be overjoyed with this decision.

Edward: Oh yes, Luca keeps going on about how Georgia will of course want to break up with him, because why would someone so perfect want to date him.. blah, blah, blah. Lovesick fool.

Lily: You know what this means, right?
