Her brown eyes sparkled as she looked up at me and nodded.

"Great. If you'll follow me this way," the nurse pointed down the hall. "We can get started."

She turned and walked down the hall, her shoes squeaking quietly against the tile floor. We passed several unmarked doors before she stopped in front of one that looked just like all the others.

"Here we are." She took out a key card and swiped, pushing the door open.

I stepped by her into the sterile room, placing my palm on Amara's lower back to guide her inside. The door clicked shut behind us, and the nurse gestured to two empty chairs in front of a wooden desk. "Go ahead and take a seat. Dr. Allwin will be in shortly."

Amara lowered herself into the chair next to me as the door clicked shut behind us. "We're at a doctor's office?"

I tried to hide my smile. "Yep."

She looked around the room. "What are we doing here?"

"I thought we could see the baby together. You went the first time without me and I wanted to be there for that. I hope you don't mind if we have a do-over."

She chuckled. "You and do-overs, I swear."

I leaned back in the hard wooden chair. "I'm all about second chances, especially when it comes to you and our baby."

Her brown eyes softened. "You're pretty great, you know that? Thank you for this."

Grabbing her hand, I brushed my lips along the inside of her wrist. "You don't have to thank me. I'm extremely selfish right now."

She moved closer until there were only a couple of inches between us, and I leaned to close the gap. I couldn't help it; her sweet cinnamon smell and warm, golden eyes drew me in, and we drifted towards each other. My lips had just touched hers when a knock sounded on the door behind us.

I groaned. "Shitty timing."

She laughed and pulled away, leaving her hand in mine. A woman in a white lab coat opened the door, peeking her head just inside. "Can I come in?"

I cracked a smile. "It's your office, Doc."

"So it is." She grinned before stepping inside and closing the door. She crossed the room, moving behind the large desk and sitting down behind it, setting the tablet she carried in her arms down on the surface. "I'm Dr. Allwin, it's great to meet you two."

I liked her vibe almost instantly. She was youthful with great energy. "I'm True, this is Amara." I glanced over to see Amara give her a small wave.

Dr. Allwin tapped on her tablet a couple of times with her finger. "I was just looking over your file on my way in. Your doctor in Kirkland sent it over to my office."

Amara sat up straighter. "Does everything look okay?"

I squeezed her hand, and she squeezed back.

"Everything looks great. Are you going to be transferring your care to me for your prenatal checkups?" Dr. Allwin looked up from her tablet, patiently waiting on Amara's answer. I held my breath.

"I'm not sure yet. We haven't really talked about it." Amara bit her lip.

I smiled. "Hey, no worries, okay? This is supposed to be fun, remember? We've got time to figure it out."

Her shoulders relaxed, and she gave me a small smile. I'd take it. "Okay."

Dr. Allwin tapped her tablet a few more times. "I'll put you into my system in case you decide to transfer. I only work with a few patients at a time to ensure I'm able to offer them the best possible care, so I want to be sure your spot is held just in case. If you decide not to, no worries."

"That would be great, thank you." Amara turned her head toward me and mouthedthank youbefore blowing me a kiss. My heart sped up, and warmth spread throughout my body. Sure, I loved my parents and my brother, but the way Amara made me feel was different. Deeper.

Looking up from her tablet, Dr. Allwin's hazel eyes sparkled. "Are we ready to see your baby?"

"So ready." I grinned. I couldn't wait to see the little life growing inside the beautiful woman sitting next to me. The life we'd created. I'd never given much thought to miracles, but damn if I wasn't about to witness one right now.
