“Aunt Maryann?” He asks.

“Do you have any other one?” I ask in amusement.

“Please, give the phone to her,” he says excitedly. I hand over the phone to Aunt Maryann.

“My darling. It’s so good to hear from you again,” Aunt Maryann says. I shake my head in amusement and leave the room. I need to start making arrangements to get my things. Aunt Maryann returns to my room some minutes later with my phone.

“He says I can send my special cookies to him,” Aunt Maryann says with absolute delight. I shake my head in amusement.

“Is that so pumpkin?” I ask, chuckling, as I take the phone from her.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I’ll love to spend my holidays with her, Mom,” he says. I glance at Aunt Maryann; it seems she is eager to know what my response will be. Evidently, they’ve discussed this.

“Sure, you can,” I say with a smile.

“Yay! My baby will be visiting me soon,” Aunt Maryann yells excitedly before leaving the room. I chuckle at her reaction before returning my attention to Michael.

“You are enjoying this, aren’t you? Everyone wants to dote on you,” I tease.

“Of course, I am. I’m going to be meeting my grand aunt for the first time,” he says.

“I hope you don’t mind, Mom. I know you don’t like me coming to Sausalito, but I just want to meet your family. I didn’t get the chance to meet Grandpa, and it would hurt me if the same happens to the rest of the family members that are left,” he adds in a low voice.

“Of course, I don’t have an issue with it. As a matter of fact, I have news to share with you,” I tell him.

“No way. Are you getting married?” He asks, and my eyes widen in surprise.

“Oh, my goodness! Finally, who is the lucky man? How come you’ve never spoken to me about this? When am I going to meet him?” I sit in shock.

“Come on, Mom, why aren’t you saying anything?” He asks before I get my voice to work.

“Maybe, it’s because I’m shocked that you would think that I’m about to get married.”

“Why can’t you get married? You’re a beautiful woman, Mom, strong and the most lovable person I know. Any man would be lucky to have you, so what’s wrong with that?” He asks.

“Wow, thank you for the compliment, but I thought we agreed that it’s me and you against the world,” I tell him.

“I know, and it won’t change when you get married. All I’m saying is that you deserve all the love possible. If you find the right man who sets your heart on fire, then you have my blessing. As long as he treats you right. If he doesn’t, he will have me to contend with,” he says. I can’t help the tears that burn in my eyes on hearing his words.

“Mom?” He calls out. I can hear the question in his words.

“Who are you, and what have you done to my baby?” I ask as a tear falls free. I quickly wipe it away with the back of my hand.

“I told you, Mom, I’m no longer your little boy. I’m growing into a man,” he says, and I smile.

“You will still remain my baby, even if you’re a hundred years old,” I say with a wry smile.

“Whatever, Mom,” he says.

“Also, I don’t intend to get married again, so that’s definitely not the news I wanted to share. I wanted to tell you I got a job here at Uncle Tyler’s company, and I’ll be relocating to Sausalito,” I say.

“Wow! This is great news. Does this mean I’ll be free to call Sausalito home?” He asks. I give a wry smile. I’m nervous about all of this. What if he runs into Jeffrey? What if Jeffrey finds out about him? I know it will have to happen sometime, but I just want to be better prepared to face Jeffrey about Michael.

“It’s up to you. You can move in here with me,” I tell him.

“Of course, I will,” he says, and I give a wry smile.

“How do you intend to get our stuff?” He asks.
