“I’d eat it every day,” he replied as his gaze traveled down her body and back up.

“Heel, Fido,” she said and pushed her cart down the aisle. “I’ll text you… or not.”

When they got to the end of the aisle, he had to stop and grab snacks. She smiled at him over her shoulder as she kept pushing her cart toward the front of the store.

He went down the paper products aisle to grab paper towels and more toilet paper, then he headed for the registers. When he reached the front of the store, he found her unloading her cart onto a belt and the older cashier ringing things up.

Rex moved to the next aisle and did the same. Grinning like a fool, he told his wolf he was sure they would be having dinner with Doc and to have patience.

Jolene

Themanwasfunnyand handsome. Jolene already knew that from her interactions with him while tending to the tiger. Bullet. She had learned that he liked to be called Bullet, and Mr. Sense of Humor was named Rex. Mama Hen had informed her of quite a bit since that night.

Along with the names of the ridiculously handsome men of the Howlers MC, she also talked Jolene through the shifter thing after a particularly twisty spiral her brain had taken, trying to understand how it was possible they existed in the first place. It involved gods, shenanigans, and magic. Instantly, her clinical and methodical brain rejected the notion, but Jolene couldn’t deny that there were things in the world that were unexplainable through scientific methods of study and explanation.

Knowing it was likely exactly what Mama Hen said it was didn’t stop the millions of questions from running through her brain. Most of them revolved around the change, or what Mama Hen calledthe shifting. Jolene wanted to know about the change in bones and muscles. She was curious about how it felt and what it was like. Did they think like animals when in that form? And then there was the healing. The medical professional in her wanted to study how their bodies managed to heal gunshot wounds in a matter of days, and knife wounds in hours. What did their bodies do when faced with disease? Were they even capable of contracting disease?

Endless. The questions just swirled around, over and over, multiplying.

For the most part, he seemed like any other man. Her body sure as hell reacted to him in the way it would any other man she found attractive. And she absolutely was attracted to Rex. She liked the long blond and gray hair and beard, his solid body, and easy grin. Those ice-blue eyes were a definite plus. But grocery shopping and cooking? Sign her the fuck up.

If the man took orders as well as he took care of his friends, there was potential there for asatisfyingarrangement.

Intrigued with the idea, Jolene put the last bag in her truck and climbed into her car before she sent him a text.

Jolene: Monday. 7pm.

She was halfway home when she heard her phone ring with a notification of his reply. Once she parked in her driveway, she checked it. It was his address, followed by another message.

Rex: I was supposed to tell you what time to be here.

With a grin, she sent a message back before she got out of the car and brought her groceries inside.

Rex

Jolene : It’s best you learn now that you’re not the one calling the shots. I’ll be there at 7pm and will be ready to eat. If you’re good, Fido, I just might give you a treat.

Fuck. Doc was bossy and sassy, but he fucking loved it. As a biker, people tended to be cautious around him, no matter where he went. He wasn’t a small guy, and he had tattoos. When you throw a leather cut on top of that, it wasn’t uncommon to see women clutch their purses closer or men cross the street to avoid getting too close. It was refreshing as hell to have someone go head-to-head with him. Not only did Doc push back, she often won, and to Rex, that was sexy as hell.

Grinning from ear to ear, Rex sent his reply and pulled out of the parking lot.

Rex : Yes, Ma’am

He couldn’t wait for Monday, which was odd. Normally, he relished his rare weekends with Nevaeh. He would still enjoy it, but his attention would most definitely be divided.

When he pulled into his driveway, he turned off his truck and gave himself a bit of a lecture.

You will not spend the next three days thinking of nothing but Doc. You are a father, and a damn good one. You will act like it, or I swear to the gods, I will not eventryfor anything more than dinner.

He barked out a laugh. Okay. He wasn’t lecturing himself as a whole. He was lecturing his cock.

When his wolf began to whine, he rolled his eyes and climbed out of his truck. He was losing it because a pretty woman ordered him around a bit. So much for that alpha male bullshit.

The front door of his house swung open, pulling his attention in that direction. “It’s about time,” Nevaeh yelled out to him with a giant grin on her face. “We’restarving.”

“You’re always starving,” he replied, and gave her a wink. “Send the boys out to help.”
