Rex forced himself out of that bathroom, when he really wanted to lift her up onto the counter and have his way with her. He couldn’t do that, though, because they both had work to get to. Sure, his brothers would totally understand Rex being late because he was screwing his mate, but he doubted the owner of the veterinarian clinic would feel the same way.

He quickly got dressed, brushed through his hair, and pulled it back into a ponytail at the nape of his neck. He was just sliding his cut onto his shoulders when she stepped into his room and bent down to grab her shoes from the floor.

Because he was a dirty old bastard, he shifted closer and pressed his hips against her backside as his hands settled on her lower back.Fuck. Would he always want her like that?

Doc stepped forward and straightened, smirking at him over her shoulder. “Later,” she said, and it sounded so much like a promise that Rex let out a little whimper. She began giggling as she strutted out of the room, with him following closely behind her.

After watching Doc drive away in her dark gray Toyota RAV4, Rex checked the weather app on his phone. It looked like it was going to be a clear day, so he decided to take his bike. While the weather in Michigan could turn at the drop of a hat, especially in the fall and winter months, he felt confident he would be fine. He was only going a handful of blocks from his home. If need be, he could borrow the club’s van to get home if rain or snow made a sudden appearance.

A smile grew on his face. Or he could have Doc swing by and pick him up.

Decision made, he opened his garage door and went inside. After mounting his bike and walking it out, he started it up and rode it around his truck, down his drive, and onto the street.

His place was one of only a few houses on his block, and he was pretty familiar with all the vehicles that would have a reason to be around there. It was why he noticed the Pathfinder, black with dark tinted windows. It didn’t belong. Taking note of the license plate number as he passed it, he kept riding. It was probably nothing, but so much had happened in the previous eighteen months that he felt better erring on the side of caution.

Even with that mindset, when the Pathfinder started up as he reached the stop sign, Rex told himself they probably just happened to be leaving at the same time he was and that it wasn’t anything to worry about. He repeated that to himself again and again, but he also noted the hair standing up on the back of his neck and the way his wolf instantly went on alert.

No, fuck that. Something was wrong. He just didn’t know what it was.

WhenRexwalkedintothe clubhouse, he knew he was scowling. He probably looked like he was ready to murder someone, but he was too focused on thinking about that Pathfinder to care. After crossing the main room, he stepped into the hallway and almost ran into Top.

“Whoa.” His club brother and closest friend held up his hand in front of him to stop the collision and gave Rex an odd look. “You good, brother?”

Rex huffed out a sigh and nodded his head. “Yeah, I just…”

“What?” Top put his hands to his hips and waited for Rex to answer.

“I think I was followed here from my house.”

“Followed?”

Rex nodded. “A Pathfinder.” He gave Top a rundown of what happened. “Probably nothing, but…”

Top cocked a brow. “If your wolf is telling you something’s wrong, then there’s something wrong. You and I both know that.”

Sighing and nodding, Rex crossed his arms over his chest. “We should mention it to Axle and see what he says.”

Top gave a nod and turned around. Together, they made their way down to Axle’s office.

His door was open when they reached the office. Rex glanced in and saw Axle cradling his baby daughter to his chest. Nugget was the light of his life, but his mate, Gorgeous, was his soul.

Axle looked over and saw them. He waved them in and gave Nugget a kiss on her forehead. “I have a meeting with Crush in twenty minutes, but what’s up?”

After he and Top took seats in the chairs across the desk from Axle, Rex ran through what happened when he left his house. Almost instantly, Axle’s expression darkened. The contentment of a new father was washed away and replaced with the look of an alpha president, determined to keep the people he cared about safe.

“Did you get the plate?”

Rex nodded.

Axle nodded to the pen and paper sitting on his desk. “Write it down. I’ll have Keys look into it.” He kissed Nugget’s forehead again, before he turned in his chair and laid her down gently in the travel bassinet set up behind his desk. When she didn’t wake up, he turned to face them again. “I want you to keep vigilant. Talk to Pike about this. He needs to be ready to make arrangements in case of a bigger issue.”

“Will do.”

“Did you see anything else?”
