Okay, that wasn’t completely true. Joining the motorcycle club had filled quite a bit of his free time. He never thought about joining an MC, but when Whiskey approached him and asked him if he would be interested, he thought it sounded like a pretty cool idea. Brotherhood. Found family. Motorcycles. Fun. Fucking yes.

He had been riding motorcycles since he was sixteen and preferred to be on two wheels rather than four, so that was nothing new to him. Whiskey had been like an older brother or an uncle to him for the majority of his teens and all of his twenties. More than once, Whiskey had saved his dumbass from biting off more than he could chew or a jail cell. He had done more for Ewan than his actual uncles or his father did.

When he accepted the Howlers MC Upper Peninsula cut, he was graced with the name Arbor. He liked the road name. It was fitting, since he worked with trees and lived up in them. It was easy for him to get used to the name. It just felt right.

With a sigh, Arbor rounded the trunk of one of the trees that held up his sanctuary. He could head to the clubhouse, but he knew no one was going to be there except for the guys from the lower peninsula club, the original Howlers MC chapter. They were going to be setting up the security system and computers. As much as Arbor liked the men, he was not technologically inclined and had no desire to learn. He worried they would rope him into it if he stepped foot on the property.

Deciding to avoid the place, Arbor climbed the steps up to the treehouse he had built as his home and settled into one of the chairs on the small deck protruding from the front. He tried to relax, even propped his feet up on the railing, but his body was geared up. He needed to do… something.

He was contemplating taking his bike for a long drive when he heard two vehicles heading down the two-track they called a road. Really, it was just a barely cleared path through the woods.

Dropping his feet from the railing, Arbor leaned forward and watched the vehicles pull into the driveway of the small cabin that sat a hundred yards down the road. Through the still bare trees, he could just make out the front of the cabin and part of the yard. He watched the vehicles park and the drivers climb out.

One of them, he knew well. Bruce was his boss and close friend. Just like Whiskey, Bruce and Greg Trenfell had become more family to him than his actual family. Bruce owned the property the cabin and his treehouse were on, so he wasn’t surprised to see him.

The beautiful woman who stepped out of the small SUV made his inner lion purr. She was fucking gorgeous with shoulder-length, wavy, dark hair he wanted to run his fingers through. Another option was to grip it tight while he took her from behind and stared down at that lush ass currently encased in a pair of dark gray dress pants. He was torn, since both ideas sounded like the best idea ever.

He had never been more grateful for his enhanced shifter senses than in that moment, as he was able to clearly see her features.

Settle down, Bud, he told his lion as it began to urge Arbor to get closer.

Like a damn stalker, Arbor watched as Bruce led the woman up onto the front deck of the cabin and inside, then he hurried down the steps of his treehouse and down the road. He wanted to be there when she came out of the cabin, hoping to finagle an introduction.

Having a smoking hot woman living a hundred yards from him was a temptation he was not going to be able to resist, so why bother?

Leaning back against a tree in the front yard of the cabin, he crossed his arms over his chest and his legs at the ankles, and waited. Ten minutes later, Bruce led the beauty out of the cabin and chuckled when he spotted Arbor.

“Why am I not surprised to see you?”

Arbor shrugged and gave a smile. “Just greeting a possible new neighbor.”

“Adefinitenew neighbor,” Bruce corrected him, and Arbor had never been happier to be corrected. “Ewan, this is Megan, the newest member of our office staff. Megs, this is the one I was telling you about. He’ll be one of your contacts.”

As he crossed the small yard and stepped onto the deck, his lion’s tail began to twitch at the news that the beauty was not only his neighbor but also his co-worker.Niiice.

Arbor shook Megan’s hand and gave her his most charming smile. “It’s a pleasure.”

He heard Bruce’s muttered, “Ah hell,” but he didn’t acknowledge it.

“Nice to meet you,” Megan said and met his gaze.

Her light gray eyes made his heart skip a beat. They were almond-shaped and lined with the longest dark lashes he’d ever seen.Fuck, he could spend hours just staring into them.

It wasn’t until Bruce cleared his throat that Arbor forced his eyes away from her and over to him. He released her hand and slowly exhaled, trying to calm himself.

“I planned on calling you after I finished here,” Bruce said. “I’ll need you hanging at the office tomorrow after lunch. Megan will be training, but I have a meeting at lunch that could run long. Need you to take over.”

Arbor gave a nod. “You got it, boss.” He chuckled when Bruce rolled his eyes at the nickname. Arbor met Megan’s gaze again. “By the way, I live across the road.” He nodded toward his treehouse. “If you need anything, holler or come by.”

Megan’s eyes shifted and scanned the side of the road, or at least what she could see through the trees. “Where?”

Bruce pulled keys from his pocket and handed them to her. “Look up a bit, Megs. Ewan here is our resident Tarzan. I’m off. See ya at work tomorrow.” As Megan lifted her gaze and tried to spot Arbor’s place, Bruce approached his truck and climbed in.

“If you want to see it, I can show it to you. It’s in the trees.”

Her gaze shot to him and widened. “You live in the trees?”

“Well, there’s a house, but yeah.” He shrugged. “It’s just me. I don’t need much.”
