Page 1 of Never Letting Go

ChapterOne

To my one and only,

We were made for each other, and nothing will keep us apart. You are my world, and I’ve loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you. Nobody else holds a candle to you, and no one ever will.

You are the peak of perfection and have inspired me to write pages of poetry. Someday I will read them all to you. I can’t wait to see your expression when you realize how much I adore you.

Every day I watch you. The way you move, the way your eyes sparkle when you laugh. Everything about you is mesmerizing. Even how your face hardens when you’re determined. You are a work of art.

But first I have to convince you that we’re made to walk hand in hand — the perfect couple. We will be the envy of everyone else.

Just you wait. You’ll see how amazing life can be when we’re finally united.

My time is limited. You’re getting married this weekend.

I can’t let that happen. I’ll never let you go.

All my love,

Your one and only

(Even if you don’t realize it yet.)

ChapterTwo

The road seemed to go on forever, curving and winding among the trees. Flecks of sunlight illuminated spots of wildflowers growing among boulders and fallen trunks. Ariana pulled her attention from the forest to the GPS inside Damon’s Charger. “Is this the right way?”

“It looks like it,” he said.

That didn’t sound convincing, especially considering they’d been on the same path for over twenty minutes. The evergreens on either side of the road seemed to reach the sky, their bark covered with moss and gnarled feet clawing into the ground. Rays of sunlight penetrated the canopy, casting intricate shadow patterns on the car’s hood.

It helped calm her worries about being late. They hadn’t left on time and had run into the start of Friday’s rush-hour traffic.

“Maybe there’s another road, and we missed it?” Ariana asked.

“Rita said the venue is deep in the woods. I’d say this fits the bill.”

“I can’t argue that.” Ariana pulled out her cell phone to text her friend, though she didn’t expect Rita to reply right away. Not when she was preparing for her wedding.

No cell service.

“We’rereallyfar out here if there’s no signal.”

Damon gave her a relaxed smile. “It’s going to be the perfect getaway weekend. Personally, I’m looking forward to some time alone with you.”

She grinned and nudged him. “We always have time alone together.”

“Not in a mansion-turned-hotel. I’ve heard the Ravenwood Lodge is amazing. I can’t believe Grayson rented the entire place for the weekend, especially on such short notice.”

“Maybe it’s haunted. The name certainly gives off that vibe.”

“I’m sure there aren’t any ghosts.”

“Right,” Ariana said. “How would they get all the way out here?”

Damon snickered as he maneuvered around a sharp corner.

The woods broke, and an amazing sight loomed before them. A gorgeous white brick building shone in the sunlight.
