“You’re the best dad. You—”

“My boy ismissing, and I forgot!” He pulled on his hair. “Who does that?”

“He’s in the hotel somewhere. Most likely he’s still hiding, not aware the game hide and seek ended. We just have to find him. You can’t blame yourself, not after you’d just found out your cousin was murdered. Clearly you were in shock. We both were.”

Grayson bolted from the room. “Alonzo! Alonzo, where are you?”

Rita glanced around the room. “I know everyone is shocked over the death, but we have two missing people we need to find. We all need to look for Alonzo and my grandma before everyone heads to their rooms. Neither of them should be alone, and nobody knows where they are. We have to search everywhere!”

Emerson stepped up. “Everyone stay in pairs. There’s a killer on the loose!”

“You’re coming with me.” Rita grabbed her future brother-in-law, her mind spinning as she stumbled toward the door.

ChapterEighteen

To my one and only,

Do I have your attention now?

It’s you and me. There are no other options. Unless you want more people to die — including the one you think you love.

Pay attention before more people have to get hurt. You can put a stop to it. All you need to do is realize we’re meant to be together. And we will be.

One way or another.

All my love,

Your one and only

(Even if you don’t realize it yet. You will. I promise. You’re getting closer.)

ChapterNineteen

“Alonzo! Mrs. Fuentes!” Ariana’s voice was getting raw. She stopped and looked around. They were at the fountain near the entrance.

Damon turned to the girl at the front desk. “You guys are aware of the missing boy and the elderly lady, right?”

She nodded. “Yes, everyone on our staff is keeping an eye out for them. Some are actively searching. This is a huge building, so they’re bound to turn up somewhere.”

“Hopefully alive,” Ariana muttered.

Damon took Ari’s hand. “We should head back to the ballroom and see if anyone has found them.”

The main door flung open just as the outdoors lit up from a bolt of lightning. Almost immediately, a crack of thunder sounded. That strike was close. Too close. The next could easily hit one of the trees in the woods and start a fire.

Dad stepped inside.

“Did you already go to the police station?” Ari exclaimed.

He shook his head, raindrops flying from hair. “Someone slashed my tires.”

Ariana gasped.

“Are you serious?” Damon exclaimed.

“I’d be driving my car to the station right now if I could be.”

“Let me see.”
