Page 70 of Never Letting Go

Rita stood in the doorway. “No matter what you do, I will marry Grayson! You can’t stop us!”

“Not if I kill him first. Or you. If I can’t have you, nobody can!” Javier ran toward her.

Ari stuck out her good leg.

His foot caught. His arms flailed. He fell in slow motion, finally landing face-first with a loud crash. When he looked up, blood gushed from his nose.

Rita marched toward him.

“Run!” Ariana pleaded.

She stood over Javier, hands on her hips. “I am not property! You won’thaveme. Got it?”

He wiped his nose. “We will be together. One way or another.”

Rita kicked him in his teeth.

Javier swore profusely and scrambled to his feet.

Ariana jumped between them. Her ankle throbbed so painfully she saw stars. She bit back a cry and held up her hands. “Stop!”

“Never!” Javier shoved her aside and lunged for Rita.

Damon flew down the aisle. He crashed against Javier, sending them both sailing into the only remaining upright chairs.

Ariana turned to Rita. “Go! Find security. Or any hotel employee!”

“You’ll never find them.” Javier snorted and yanked free of Damon’s hold. He flung a chair on Damon then clambered over several others to get out of Damon’s reach.

“What are you talking about?” Rita looked at him like he’d just sprouted another head.

An evil grin spread across his face. “I told them you were being held hostage by Grayson. When they were all in the room, I locked them in.”

That explained why nobody had been able to find any of the staff in the last few hours.

“They believed that?” Rita exclaimed.

“I can be very convincing.”

She lunged for him.

Ariana grabbed her arm. “Run!”

“No!” Rita wrenched free of her friend’s grasp. “This doesn’t stop until I put an end to it.” She glared at Javier. “You and I will never be anything, no matter what you do. It won’t happen. You need to get that through your thick skull!”

“Like I said, if I can’t have you—”

Rita bristled.

No way could Ariana let Rita risk her baby. Or herself. Ignoring her ankle, she lunged at Javier, throwing all of her weight into him as she plowed into his side. They both crashed to the ground. She landed on him, softening the blow. He elbowed her in the side and shoved her off.

But before he could get clear, Damon leaped on top of him. He pulled Javier’s arms behind him, then pinned him to the floor. “You aren’t going to hurt anyone. It’s over.”

“What now?” Rita exclaimed.

“Go find the hotel employees. Get help if you need it. Ari and I will figure out what to do with him.”

Rita nodded and headed for the door.
