Bella sighed and put her phone away. Hopefully Rita would share the professional pictures, otherwise those two would be the only ones she got of her sister’s wedding.

The entire ceremony went off without a hitch. Before she knew it, the officiant announced the kiss.

Bella’s heart hammered. This was always the best part of every wedding.

Grayson kissed Rita with such sweet passion, Bella could only hope she would one day have someone who adored her as much.

The crowd cheered and clapped, then the new husband and wife promenaded together down the aisle. They couldn’t possibly look happier.

The rest of the wedding party followed them, then people from the audience. Bella couldn’t wait to give a huge hug to her sister and new brother-in-law. She stepped into the aisle.

Fingers grasped her shoulder, pressing hard enough to bruise, yanking her to a stop.

Throat dry, she turned to face her dad. Nobody else would grab her so roughly.

His brows furrowed. “Where do you think you’re going?”

She swallowed. “To congratulate—”

“Did Isayyou could run off ahead of your mother and me?”

Her stomach dropped to the ground. “No.”

“No, what?”

“No, sir.”

“That’s right. This is not a celebration, and you have more important matters to consider.”

Bella tried to hold her shaking hands still. “What’s that?”

“Your own marriage. I’ve picked out a husband for you. He’s an even better choice than Boone was for Rita.”

Because setting the bar higher than a philandering serial killer would be difficult.

“Don’t you have anything to say?” Mom asked.

“Who is he?”

Dad tightened his grip on her shoulder. “I think what you meant to say was, thank you.”

“Th-thank you.”

“Much better. We’ll talk about this later. Just know that before the year is done, you’ll be a wife too.”

Bella tried to stop the tears that threatened to burst like a dam.

She needed to find a way out of the marriage, and she didn’t have much time.
