“Asshole.” She hisses and I chuckle softy as the approaching rumble tells me this is just about to get interesting.

As the noise increases, she says quickly, “What’s that?”

I don’t need to answer her as my helicopter appears before us, rising majestically against the steel building.

I pull her back and grip her wrist hard and we watch as the bird lands on the helipad as arranged.

“Come.”

I pull her after me and she squeals, “No. What the fuck are you are doing? I’m not getting in that thing.”

She has no choice as I pull her after me, ducking under the rotor blades and pushing her through the open door.

Before she can run, I fasten her seatbelt and slam the headphones on her head and swing the door shut, loving how the bird immediately rises above the sparkling city.

My passenger may be shit scared, but her eyes are shining as we cut through the night sky like avenging demons.

“Where are we going?” She says through the headset, and I smile. “To your first.”

I reach for her hand and squeeze it gently and smile my reassurance as she stares at me with confusion. The fact she leaves her hand in mine tells me everything I need to know. My ice queen is thawing and after what I have planned tonight, she will do everything I ask, and it will be the sweetest revenge.

CHAPTER5

ALLEGRA

My mind is scrambled. It’s as if I don’t even know myself anymore. How has this happened and why am I enjoying it in a twisted, fucked up victim kind of way?

Every minute I am around this man, I am on high alert. There is not one of my senses that isn’t affected by him, and it’s exhausting. He scares the shit out of me, but I am ridiculously attracted to him. There is something so intoxicating about this man that draws me to him against my will.

Now I am holding his hand. What the hell?

It brings me to my senses, and I slide my hand away from his and point out at the skyline.

“Where are we heading?”

“To your first.” He grabs my hand again and this time I let it settle there. It feels kind of nice and so I turn a blind eye to all the red flags waving around me and try to enjoy the experience.

This may be my first and my last birthday because I’m not a fool. I know he is a bad man. I watched him freaking murder a man in cold blood as if it’s the kind of thing he does for kicks.

I shouldn’t be attracted to that. I am fucked in the head, but right now, in this moment of time, I am living a life that is strangely turning me on.

The sky is as dark as this man’s heart and as I steal a glimpse at him, I swear my whole body comes alive. He is so gorgeous, like a dark, decadent treat that is extremely bad for your health. A drug that is forbidden and yet you ignore the warnings and go there anyway. Maybe this will be a first because I tread carefully through life. I am the good girl. The valedictorian and sorority princess. He got that title right. I have never placed a foot wrong until I stepped into that alley and now look where I am. In trouble, that’s for sure.

“We’re here.” He turns and points to a light in the ocean and I gasp, “You are freaking kidding me. I must parachute onto a frigging boat now.”

He laughs and I love the way his eyes shine with excitement. It’s contagious, and I even allow myself a small smile in return.

“Sadly, no. Not this time. It has a helipad.”

“The boat has a helipad.” I shake my head. “What is it, a US destroyer or something?”

“No” He grins and raises my hand to his lips.

“Just my boat.”

As we dip lower, I brace myself for a watery grave and yet the pilot has obviously done this before because he touches down lightly, causing me to groan with relief. Thank God. Then again, perhaps it may have been better to drown because, from the expression in this man’s eye, I’m about to face something even more dangerous.

The door opens and I note a man standing there dressed in a black polo shirt and chinos and he nods with respect.
