“I’m deeply in love with you,” I tell her before partaking in the most perfect kiss I could ever imagine.
After a long while, we pull apart and rest our foreheads together. “My family is setting up a little after party down on the lawn where we just were,” I say. “They’re excited to celebrate our engagement with us.”
“You’re sneaky, you know that, Alec? I thought this whole weekend was for the resort.”
“It is,” I counter. “There was just something much more important to do, too.”
She kisses me again and then holds her hand out to eye the ring. “So now the question is, do we walk back down to the family? Or do we drive?”
“I’m tired from the jog, so I’ll drive,” I tell her, happy for any excuse to wield the license I worked hard to get back.
We head to my car and another bump of excitement hits me as I remember that Oakley’s parents and brother will be at the after-party to surprise her as well. I’m happy everything came together.
I’m happy the woman of my dreams said “yes.”
I’m happy that all of the trials of my life have come down to this—a hard fought love.
It was all worth it.
