“You should have put his nose through his skull,” Cooney muttered.

“Got that right,” Jarod agreed.

I glanced around my living room, loving the fact the five of us had freed ourselves for a Sunday afternoon of football. It had been months since we’d all managed to find a time when we were available to hang out.

Blake’s Wren was at the pharmacy working. Jessie and Christine had taken both of Reid’s kids to the park—brave souls—leaving him and Jarod with nothing to do. Like Wren, Becky was on the clock. She’d recently been promoted to the weekend manager at the coffee shop she’d been working at, freeing the redheaded giant up for every get-together on Sunday afternoons.

And my woman all but Blake hadn’t yet met? She was out running last-minute errands for Dina’s wedding taking place the following Saturday.

“He gets out of jail and comes sniffing around ten years from now, and we’re going to off his ass, bury him at sea while using your boat, Blake,” Cooney said, letting out his darker side I enjoyed a little too much. Like me, he had zero tolerance for abusive men. He also knew how to bend morals when the situation called for…more important matters than doing the right thing in the eyes of society.

“Fuck yeah,” Reid crowed, raising his hand like someone in a worship service. Nothing pleased him as much as seeing asshole exes behind bars.

My desires to hurt in order to bring pleasure used to bother me. Filled me with guilt. It had taken four years after that night with Dean before I had tried again to explore the kinks I couldn’t get out of my mind. But that time, I’d done so in a safe environment with a seasoned Dom showing me what a D/s scene was really supposed to look like.

Years later, after submitting to his tutelage, I’d earned an invite to join Chantelle’s club in downtown Boston where Cooney still frequented with his woman.

It had been months since I’d gone there.

While I hadn’t mentioned visiting with Jasmine, I still held hope that someday she would be open to the idea of wearing my collar and calling me Master.

One step at a time.

“I bought Jasmine a ring,” I stated, causing all four of my friend’s heads to whip my way.

“No fucking way,” Blake said, laughing. “The forever playboy—”

“You were the worst damn playboy, Harper,” I shot back, cutting him off. “You could have any woman you wanted—so you did.”

He preened a bit and huffed over his knuckles before rubbing them on his shirt.

Reid punched his shoulder. “Arrogant prick.”

“No brag,” he stated, his voice full of what Reid had accused him of. “Just fact.”

“And Wren wrapped you up in a tidy little bow,” Jarod said. “We know who wears the pants in your house.”

“Becky is pregnant.”

I jerked my head toward Cooney. “Get the fuck out!”

Other voices joined me as we congratulated Daniel until his face flushed.

“Finally got it up long enough to get the job done, huh?” Blake teased as I’d been about to do.

It was the pillow alongside Jarod that clobbered Blake upside the head for his comment. Reid’s missed. “Don’t be an ass,” Jarod said.

Cooney chuckled, not taking offense. He’d never been a horny bastard like the rest of us until he’d met Becky. She was one of the sweetest submissives I’d ever met—aside from my own little lamb.

We still had a ways to go with the bucket list of deviant sexual acts she wanted to do with me we kept in the bedside table, but knowing she was willing made all the difference. It was her heart that mattered, not the anticipation of someday watching paddle prints bloom across her ass or filling her backdoor with a load of my spunk. That didn’t mean I didn’t hope for those things or tease her about them.

I loved her. Period.

In health or in sickness, the good times and the bad we would probably someday face. But, we would do so together. If she said yes to me, which Dina had assured me she would. Even her Dad and Mom had been on board when I’d asked their permission the week before when I’d taken them out to lunch without Jasmine knowing.

That outing had required a little white lie, but I reasoned it away, expecting Jasmine wouldn’t mind once she learned why I’d snuck out to see them.

“I heard a rumor.”
