I dry-retched and fought to stay conscious, all while black spots grew bigger and stars sparkled brighter. “Y-you drugged me?”

His smile hardened. His eyes turned sinister. “Well...you have to understand, my friend is with Zara now. I came to visit him from Adelaide, and he’s all obsessed and shit. Says he’s not coming home now that he’s met ‘the one’. I’m merely looking after his girl—doing something nice for him.” He chuckled. “And the fact that I get to fuck you is just a bonus.”

My heart ripped itself apart.

Aslan...

His face crowded my swimming thoughts.

Tears shot up my spine.

Why didn’t I stay home tonight? Why did I think Zara would forgive me? Why had I picked a fight with Aslan when the truth was, I would do whatever he wanted as long as he loved me—

“I’m doing you a favour, really.” Ethan laughed. “You gotta move on from your ex, after all. They say fucking someone else is key to getting over them.” He pointed at his tented crotch. “Happy to be of service.”

My insides shrivelled. My heart screamed for the boy I’d always loved. The boy I was born for. The boy the sea had given me.

Aslan!

Please...

Swallowing back my tears and my fears, I snarled, “I won’t let you touch me.”

He clucked his tongue. “Ah, see, that’s a bit silly. I’d rather you didn’t say that because I’d hate to prove you wrong.” He narrowed his eyes, evil shining in them. “Regardless that you didn’t have the full dose, you won’t be able to fight me off, so I suggest you don’t even try.”

My vision greyed; my skin turned slippery with sweat.

Every part of me throbbed and scratched. My bones were put together wrong. My blood fuzzy and weak, terrified and woozy.

Ethan murmured, “Now, while you’re conscious enough, stand up and get on the bed.”

My heart grabbed an axe and hacked through my ribs. Scrambling to my feet, I forced my knees to stay strong and my vision to stay focused. “Let me go or I’ll scream.”

He laughed and extended from his crouch. “Do you honestly think anyone will hear you over the music below?”

“The poliice will co-come.” My tongue tied itself into knots. “The poliwice—”

My own body betrayed me, tripping deeper into the drugs. Fear shot through me again, keeping me clear-headed for another second. “A noise commmplaind will be fil-filed and—”

“I better hurry then.” With a smirk, his hands went to his jeans. With practiced fingers, he undid his belt, yanked it from the loops, and smacked the leather against his palm. “Now...seeing as I’m in a happy mood, I’ll once again give you two choices.”

My heart stopped pounding; I went deathly still.

The room turned upside down.

I couldn’t catch a proper breath.

I stumbled and caught myself on Joel’s side table, sending a stack of glossy magazines to splat against the carpet. “Plwease...just let me go.”

“Choice number one.” He advanced, making me dart toward the bed, stumbling to my knees as the walls became the floor. “You spread those pretty legs for me and enjoy it. I’ll be nice, I promise. Option number two is—”

“Fuck you!” Scrambling back up, I tripped to the other side of Joel’s bed. Ripping open his bedside table, my hands dove inside the messy drawer.

A knife.

A letter opener.

Something...please!
