“Oh? Is Hidden Cove moving?”

“Not at all. I want to open a new place, in addition to what I currently have going on.” I told Dana a little about what I was looking for—a commercial space with plenty of room for a well-outfitted kitchen and a cozy dining room, lots of foot traffic, and… I didn’t know what else. I was open to options. “Can you help?”

“You know I can. Are you looking to build, modify, or something turn-key?”

“I’d prefer to modify, but I’m open to building for the right location—if my investor agrees. Building in a new location would probably take more assets than we planned for.”

“Understood. Leave it to me and I’ll find something amazing.”

“Thanks Dana.”

“Anytime, Chef.”

By the time we hung up, it was mid-afternoon and I had a date to get ready for. Even just thinking about it made butterflies flood my system. I closed my eyes again and tried to rest, focusing on making my breaths come deep and even, and trying to ignore all thoughts of Cam, his smile, his cock, his body, as I did my best to convince my body to sleep.

Chapter Twelve

Cam

Ihurriedbacktomy hotel, my body sore in all the best ways. I could hardly believe we’d done that. I had let a stranger—who also happened to be my husband—fuck me, bare no less. It had been amazing. Oliver was hotter than hot and the lust-fueled sex with him had been top-tier, so I wasn’t regretting it. The sex was definitely one reason to wish that our relationship didn’t end too soon. The other reason was the more I thought about it, the more bits and pieces of the night of the wedding came back to me, hazy as they were.

I certainly couldn’t remember everything, not even close. But I did remember how much fun we had together. I remembered how we’d danced and kissed and touched each other all night. I remembered sitting at a diner booth, laughing our asses off as we shared a plate of fries and a few drinks. I even remembered the fluttery feeling in my stomach when we’d kissed, our first kiss as husbands. Ultimately, I was glad we’d gotten married, conventions be damned.

If I was being honest with myself, though, I was definitely worried that despite all my hopes, he would want to go through with the divorce anyway. My chest ached at the thought of being divorced before I even got a chance to get to know my husband.

I checked the time as I entered the hotel. It was mid-afternoon and I needed to meet up with the group for dinner soon. I’d left in such a hurry, only saying the Chef needed to meet with me, and I knew they’d have questions. Probably a lot of questions. I had no idea what I was going to tell them. Maybe I’d make up an elaborate lie to cover my tracks. I hated the idea of lying to my friends. Maybe I’d just tell the truth.

Back in my room, I took a little while to clean myself up and gather my thoughts. I felt a little like a fairy-tale princess—marrying a man I’d just met and hoping beyond all odds that it would work out for a happily-ever-after ending. I had to keep telling myself that it would most likely end in divorce and I needed to get ready for that.

I made my way down to the hotel restaurant a little before our reservation time. When I got there, our table was already ready, so I took a seat and ordered a drink while I waited for the rest of the guys to arrive, jiggling my foot and bouncing my knee while I stressed over what I was going to say.

Parker and Jared showed up first, jostling one another and laughing. Parker shoved Jared and said something I couldn’t make out before Jared took a playful swing at Parker and nearly clocked a server who was walking by with a tray of food. She shot them a glare and hurried on her way. When they spotted me, they stopped their horseplay and fixed their gazes on me, making a beeline to the table.

“Should’ve known you’d be here first,” Jared said, plopping into his seat. “So…”

I raised my eyebrows, trying hard to look supremely bored. “So?”

“Where the fuck did you run off to this afternoon?” Parker sat next to me and slung an arm around my shoulders.

I shifted away from him, looking at my drink instead of either of them. “What do you mean?”

Levi appeared behind Jared at that moment and I let out a little sigh of relief. Saved—for a second, anyway.

“Hi, guys. Where’s everyone else?” Levi looked around like he thought they were hiding or in the bathroom or something.

“Not here yet,” I muttered.

“In other news, Cam here was just about to tell us about his little afternoon delight.” Parker elbowed me, grinning. “Weren’t you, Cam?”

My stomach fluttered at the memory of the incredibly hot sex we’d had in Oliver’s office, his broad hands spreading me open as he… I shivered and tried to refocus on my friends.

“I was not.”

“Aw, come on. Tell us what you got up to after you left us to go answer the Chef’s call.” Jared was grinning too, and he held up his hands when he said “the Chef’s call” like he was envisioning putting it on a marquee or something.

I tried to muster the most annoyed look I could manage. “Look, it’s not that big of a story, but if you want to hear it, you’ll have to wait until everyone else gets here. I’m not repeating it a half dozen times.”

“That’s fair,” Levi said, taking a seat next to Jared.
