"Goodnight, Smarty. Thanks for a fun night." I put her back on the ground, and when she takes a step back, she fires her question with no hesitation.

"When is your date with my mom?"

Emma gasps and says, "Charlotte!"

Her cheeks turn a light shade of pink when my eyes meet hers. I get up, pull out one of my business cards, and hold it out to her.

"If you want to go to dinner with me, call me. If you don't, that's okay too."

She stares at the card in my hand, and after a few seconds, she nods as she reaches for the piece of paper. Her fingers touch mine for the briefest of moments, and a bolt of electricity shoots through me. I know she senses it, too, by the way her body flinches.

"Thank you," she offers with a polite smile while sliding the card in her purse and holding out her hand to Charlotte. "Goodnight, girls." She turns around and walks away, and I can't help but stare.

When they're out of sight, Amanda throws a punch against my shoulder.

"Nick, what's wrong with you? Why didn't you set a dinner date with her? What if she doesn't call you?"

I turn and study both women who are staring at me.

"Congrats on a successful evening. You should be proud of what you've accomplished tonight. Talk to you later." I kiss Amanda on her cheek and walk away. My sister calls out to me, but I keep striding until I'm outside. Slowing my pace, I gaze at the bright, shining stars. The moon sends light over the parking lot, and as I wander over the gravel towards my car, I pull out my phone. After pressing one of the speed dial buttons, it only takes a few seconds for a familiar voice to speak.

"Hey. What's up?"

"I attended Amanda's auction tonight. And now I need a drink."

The deep, honest laugh of my best friend,Cole, fills my ear, and I roll my eyes.

"Are you up for a drink?" I ask.

"I am. Give me fifteen minutes. Meet at our place?"

"Yeah." After Cole ends the call, I get in my car and drive to the bar.

Fifteen minutes later, I park my Porsche, and as I walk, I admire the broad, white building with gold painted windows, which adds to its charisma.

Six-Pack is one of my personal investments. Cole and I both invested money in this bar/nightclub to help our mutual best friend, Brian, realize his dream of opening this place.

As I walk to the entrance, I see the familiar face of Vince. His lips curl up, and he opens the door when he recognizes me.

"Good evening, Vince. How are you?"

"I'm great, thanks to you," he says, while giving me a friendly nudge on the shoulder.

"I only made the phone call. The rest was you," I point out.

Three years ago, I met Vince. He was working at a club I tried to rescue from bankruptcy, but the owner was a notorious gambler. Despite my help, it still ended up closing.

Vince and his wife were expecting their first child, and he needed a full-time job to support his family. Recognizing an honest man and a hard worker, I helped him by making a few phone calls, and a week later, he started working here. And now, he's head of security.

"How is your family?"

Vince smiles and grabs his cell to show me a picture of them. A glimpse of pride shines through his stern features.

"Your son has your looks." I smile and pat him on his shoulder. "Has Cole arrived?"

Vince nods his head. "Yeah, he's inside."

"Okay, thanks."
