Chapter 6

Thirty minutes left. I've never been this impatient. I turn to glance at Cole and discover he doesn't seem to share my disdain. He has his legs stretched out in front of him while he sips his drink, and it appears as if he's engrossed in his favorite book—not drafting up a business contract. My eyes shift back outside as my mind wanders. The memory of forest green eyes and plump, full lips consumes me. God! My cock twitches, thinking of the heated moment in the car.

"Nick!"

I flinch as sharp pain spears through the left side of my shin, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Why the hell are you kicking me?"

Cole shares a sarcastic smirk with me as he shakes his head. "I said your name three times with no response. That shin of yours was the next step in getting your attention. Your business head left the minute we entered this plane. All of your concentration is in your pants."

"That's nonsense." I tap my foot on the floor while Cole throws his head back. His thunderous laugh is resonating through the private plane.

"Oh, are you sure?"

My brow furrows, and I let out an annoyed huff.

"That's what I guessed." Cole cocks his head and begins going over the contract.

"This is the offer. You have twenty-four hours to decide."

I end the phone call and drum my fingers on my desk as my lips curl up in satisfaction. Negotiating deals and coming out as the winner is what I do. I lean back into my seat, placing my hands behind my head and closing my eyes.

My mind drifts to Emma and Charlotte. I've sensed many changes in my life and work since they entered my life. My break up with Cindy two years ago left me empty inside for a long time. Every day, the same routine. I'd wake up at five or six in the morning and start my workout for an hour or more. Then I'd grab my coffee and head over to the office where I’d make and close deals until the sun switched places with the moon, my evenings filled with meaningless, one-night stands.

My office phone rings, and my eyes flicker over the display. It's an internal call from Karen, my assistant.

"Yes."

"Sorry to bother you. But I have Miss Calter here. She claims you're expecting her?"

My eyes narrow, and my jaw tenses. Is the universe playing a wicked game with me? I gather my thoughts before I answer Karen.

"Send her up."

I hang up and get out of my mahogany-colored leather office chair and walk through the room. To stop myself from pacing, I move over to the window and study the world outside of this office building. I let my hands slide in my pockets while I lean my shoulder against the wooden window post.

What the fuck does she want?

The increasing sound of heels clicking on the marble hallway floor tells me she has arrived. I pivot around as the door opens, and watch Cindy parade in as if she's the queen herself. She closes the door and stops at my desk. Her eyes travel over my body, and with one hand resting on her hip, she meets my eyes.

"Hello, Nicky."

My irritation grows upon hearing her say that nickname.

"What are you doing here, Cindy?"

She raises a brow and cocks her head to the side as she answers. "I enjoyed seeing you at the restaurant. I wanted to see you again." Striding over until she stands in front of me, she lets her eyes roam over my body. Then she breaks the silence.

"You look great. I missed you, Nick."

"Oh, sure, you did." I narrow my eyes at her.

She runs her tongue over her red lips as she bats her fake eyelashes at me. "I miss you and our amazing sex. Remember what we did in this office? Our sex life was always spectacular. Remember the time we..."

"Enough!" I slam my palm on the window and squint my eyes at her. "Stop with the memory lane, Cindy, and tell me why you're here."

"I wanted to see you. Let's get a bite to eat."
