Chapter 7

Oh God, it's been a while since I've slept this deep. Visions of last night come flooding back to me. Nick! I open my eyes. No one's here. For a moment, I doubt my fantasies, but when I stretch out my body and sense muscles aching that never ached before, I smile. As I take an inhale, the odor of something burning penetrates my nose.

Seconds later, I'm putting a pair of panties on, then snatching a shirt from the floor and pulling it over my head while hurrying to the kitchen. The ardent aroma gets stronger with every step, and when I enter the kitchen, I stop. Holy hell.

Nick stands by the island, wearing his jeans low on his hips. Streams of daylight highlight every angle of his well-toned, exposed chest. With his arms crossed in front of his rib cage, he stares down, and a tingling sensation in my lower abdomen makes me bite my lip, but when he frowns, I can't help but giggle.

"What happened?"

His puzzled gaze meets mine as I wander and halt next to him. "I tried to bake, but it didn't turn out the way I expected. I wanted to surprise you with a piece of our chocolate cake."

Hearing him say “our” chocolate cake melts my heart. My eyes wander over the crispy black creation, which emanates an overpowering scent.

"I followed the recipe I found on the internet," he says, still baffled.

I get on my toes and press a kiss on his cheek. "What was the oven time?"

"Thirty minutes," he answers.

"What temperature?"

"180 Celsius."

I walk to the oven and stare at the display and its setting.

"Nick?"

He walks over and stands behind me while I point to the settings button on the oven. "What?"

"You put it on the full grill program," I say while covering my hand over my curling lips. When I turn around and see the innocent, surprised expression on Nick's face, I can't help but laugh out loud.

"You find this funny?"

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't laugh. But..." I chuckle again. "I've never had a sexy, half-naked man in my kitchen, burning a cake and looking so innocent doing it."

"Told you, I'm not a kitchen prince. I've got my mother's genes to blame."

"Yeah, you need supervised kitchen visits."

We both laugh, but when his face shows a toe-curling, sensuous smile and his hand brushes against my arm, the energy changes in a flash.

"Good morning, Emma. Did you sleep well?"

Goosebumps decorate my skin as he says this in a deep tone of voice, and a light, throbbing sensation starts between my legs.God. One-touch, and I'm hot as hell. "Good morning."

Nick bends over and places a soft kiss on my lips. "You're gorgeous."

I raise my eyebrows. "Oh, please, the mornings aren't my best time," I say, brushing my fingers through my hair.

"I disagree with that; to me, mornings suit you fine."

"Well, thank you. You're easy on the eyes yourself," I say.

"Have you been awake long?" I ask, trying to hide my coloring cheeks.

"Yes, for two-and-a-half hours." His gaze roams over me, and an extra burst of heat releases. "You're wearing my shirt," he states with a thick voice.

"Yeah, do you mind?"
