I let out an exhausted sigh while brushing my hands over my face before placing my hands in my lap, and when I glimpse at Amanda, whose eyes show nothing more than compassion, the words spill out.

"No, but what happened involves him."

Amanda's brows crease in confusion.

"This morning, I had to deliver a cake."

"To who, Emma?" Her voice becomes suspicious.

"Cindy Calter."

Amanda's eyes expand as she places her hands on her hips. They turn into clenched fists. "What did that vicious snake do?"

After I tell Amanda everything, she covers her mouth with utter disbelief.

"Oh, Emma. That’s despicable. She’s sick and twisted. I can't believe my brother was ever stupid enough to fall for her. I always recognized she was a snake." She pauses. "Tell Nick, Emma."

I let out a shaky breath. "I don't want to talk to him. He lied to me." Silence is heavy between us before I speak again. "I'm going home. I have to pick up Charlotte from school in a few hours, and she doesn't need an upset mom." I rise and walk towards her. "Thank you for being here for me. You're a kind woman, Amanda." I give her a genuine smile. "But please, don't tell Nick."

Before she can answer, I race out of her office and through her store. There are still no customers, but I understand why. Oh, my God, she put up the closed sign at the front door! She did that when she got me a glass of water. I grab the sign, turn it to open, and step outside.

When I arrive home, feelings of irritation and anger arise. He slept with her four weeks ago? That's when he asked me out!

I peek at the clock. It's only 11.27 am. I walk to my supply cabinet and start pulling things out and placing them on the kitchen counter. Time to release my built-up tension—time to make cookies.

I pressmy fingers on the keyboard of my computer and let out an annoyed huff. "Dammit."God, I hate computers. I slam the top shut and lean back in my leather chair. The door opens, and Karen appears—smiling at my annoyed expression and closed laptop.

"Technology not working for you today?"

"No. Could you please look at the Peters’ file this afternoon and finish it?"

"Sure, no problem. But I came here because Amanda called a few minutes ago. She sounded upset, and I told her you'd call back when you had time."

I raise my brows. "I'll call her now. Thank you, Karen." She nods, and as she closes the door, I grab my phone and start dialing Amanda's number. It only takes two rings for her to answer.

"Hey, sis." Before I can continue, she cuts in.

"You better wipe your agenda clean and get your ass in your car." I sit up straight, hearing Amanda's demanding tone.

"Who bit your ass this morning?"

"Nobody. But forty minutes ago, Emma left my store after she cried her heart out."

"What?" I jump out of my chair.

"She came to the shop looking for Alisha, and she was on the verge of a meltdown."

“What? What happened?” I yell through the phone.

"That's something you should ask her. She asked me not to tell you, but you need to fix this. So get up and move.”

"Amanda, tell me what—" Before I can finish my sentence, my sister ends the call.

"Fuck!" I shout out. Shoving the phone in my pocket, I snatch my car keys from my desk and make my way to my assistant while running my fingers through my hair.

"Karen, I need to go. Cancel my meeting with Spencer Hannover. I don't want anyone to disturb me." She nods in agreement, and I rush out of the office with a mind that is going haywire.
