"Sorry, he turned off his phone."

I turn back, and with my fingertips trailing over the petals of the deep red roses, I pray. Please, Cole, come back and let me explain.

Hours later,Amanda and I close the store and walk to our cars. Cole hasn’t called, and I’m worried.Where is he? Is he alone, or is Jeremy with him? We’re standing next to our cars when I’m pulled out of my musings by a tap on my shoulder.

"Is Samantha home?" Amanda asks.

"Yeah, she texted me."

"Well, then I’m coming with you."

"That’s sweet, Amanda, but—"

"No buts. You need a friend, and I’m your friend. So let’s go. We are going to order a delicious pizza that we can devour as we wait for Cole to return."

Too tired to argue with her, I nod.

Amanda smiles, and as we get in our cars, I smile when she waves at me through her window.Damn, I’m lucky to have such good friends.

Samantha leansbackin her chair with a loud burp and a huff, placing her hand on her stomach. "Oh god, I might burst. I’m never eating this much pizza again."

Amanda chuckles at Samantha’s reaction. "Guess skipping the gym is not an option this week," she says, rising and slapping herself on her behind. Sam and I chuckle at Amanda pushing out her ass and rubbing it.

"Last night I ordered sushi for two, and afterward, I ate a bucket of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream while watchingMagic Mike." She lets out a huff. "I love that movie."

"Why don’t you ask Brian to help you stretch those ice cream muscles?"

Samantha and I laugh as Amanda rolls her eyes. But when the sudden sound of an incoming text reaches me, it has me jumping off my chair and hurrying to grab my phone.

"Oh, thank God! It's him."

When I stay quiet, Amanda pops up next to me and looks at the screen.

"What is he saying?"

"He says he wants to meet me at the diner across from the store."

"So… Go. I’ll stay with Samantha."

"Are you sure?"

"Duh," Amanda says, placing both her hands on my shoulders. "Go! Samantha and I are going to have girls' time."

I hug Amanda and grab my purse.

Samantha hugs me tight and whispers, "Did you and Cole have a fight?"

"Don’t worry, Sam. We had a misunderstanding, but I’m going to make it right. We just need to sit down and talk."

The teenager nods and kisses me on my cheek. "Okay. See you two later."

"Oh, and don’t forget to put on your red lipstick," Amanda yells as I cross the threshold.

I chuckle for a moment before biting on my lip while making my way to the elevator. Five minutes later, I start my car, and as I leave the parking garage, I wonder:Will he forgive me?
