The wooden front door opens, and Charlotte comes running our way in a purple dress with white flowers. Her high ponytail sweeping from side to side. "Hello, Samantha. I'm Charlotte," she says with a massive smile as she stops straight in front of her.

Samantha extends her hand, and Charlotte shakes it. "Hello, Charlotte, nice to meet you."

The seven-year-old's face is full of eagerness. "Do you want to help bake cupcakes? My grandmother Martha and I are making chocolate chip, vanilla ones.”

"Sure. I love them," Samantha answers with a smile.

I follow them as they walk over the gravel towards the door. When Nick shows up, he smirks, seeing the girls.

"Hello Samantha, nice to see you again."

My daughter blushes when she sees my best friend. Guess she's still smitten with him.

"H-Hello," she answers in a soft voice.

"Daddy, Samantha also loves cupcakes. So, we're going to help Grandma Martha bake."

I stop when I'm next to my best friend, who watches how the two girls disappear into the mansion. When he focuses his attention back on me, he pats me on the shoulder. "Hey, how are you? Have you heard from Alisha?"

I shake my head. "Nope, but that's okay."

We enter, and when we step inside the kitchen, I smile when seeing Martha shaking Samantha's hand. "Oh, sweetheart, it's so lovely to meet you. I heard so much about you. Those gorgeous blue eyes of yours will get you in trouble with boys," she says, sending Samantha a wink.

"Oh, Martha, please. She's only fifteen."

Nick’s mother comes my way, and when I lift her a few inches off the ground as I give her a hug, she giggles. "Hello, Cole. How are you, dear?"

With both her feet back on the floor, I look at the woman I adore. "I'm okay, especially now that I see you. You look lovely, as always."

She chuckles while giving me a playful slap on my arm. "Now, you're not only a chivalrous gentleman but also a lion-hearted father with a beautiful daughter."

I nod as my eyes go to Samantha, who is listening to Charlotte. "Yeah, she's an amazing young lady, Martha. It's been a shock for both of us, but I couldn't be happier with a daughter like her."

Samantha hears me and blushes.

"Mommy," Charlotte screams excitedly. "Samantha loves cupcakes too." Emma gives her girl a thumbs up as she shuffles into the kitchen.

Nick walks over to his wife and kisses her on the cheek. "Hey, Angel. Did you get any sleep?"

"No," she mutters. "Our son keeps kicking and moving around like some athlete warming up."

Nick places his hand on her belly and bends his head. "Give Mommy some rest, buddy. Otherwise, I won’t get any love later."

Emma smacks his shoulder. "Nickolas, we have company."

I chuckle, seeing how her cheeks color. Suddenly, her eyes land on me, and she moves my way. "Cole, could I talk to you for a moment? It's important."

"Sure. What's on your mind?"

"Not here. Follow me." She turns and walks out of the kitchen. I glance at Nick, but he's focused on Charlotte, who calls for him.

I walk into the living room and find her standing by the window with her hands caressing her belly. "You look good, Emma."

She gives me a smirk. "Thank you for not calling me a whale, because this boy knows how to claim his space."

I grin. "So, you wanted to talk?"

Rubbing her belly with one hand, she looks me straight into my eyes. "Yeah, about Alisha."
