When I parkmy car in the Brown's driveway, I apply a fresh layer of lipstick and grin at myself in the mirror before strolling over to Cole. His eyes fall onto my red lips. "Damn, woman, you like to test my willpower, don't you?"

I offer him a bemused smile as I stop beside him.

"You know Amanda and Brian are here," he informs, pointing to the other two cars standing in the driveway.

"Oh, I don't mind. Let's show all of them not to mess with us."

He chuckles. "You sure you want to upset a pregnant woman? Her meddling worked out well," he says with a grin.

"That's not the point. We have to teach our dear friends not to meddle in our business. Otherwise, they'll continue doing it." I smirk as we walk to the front door.Time to teach Emma Brown a lesson.

COLE

Peekingthrough the window of the Brown residence, I see Charlotte and Samantha standing in the hallway. I tap on the glass, and the girls glance up and come our way. Alisha makes a shh sound by placing her finger in front of her lips. Charlotte nods, and her eyes sparkle with enthusiasm.

"Hey, Smartypants. How are you, honey?" Alisha whispers.

"Good, I'm going to show Samantha Bell and Beast," she whispers back.

"Who?" I ask curiously.

She grins. "The bunnies we bought last week."

Samantha beams when she hugs Alisha, and my heart leaps with joy at seeing the bond between these two amazing women grow with each day. "I missed you."

Alisha kisses Samantha on the cheek. "I missed you too, sweetheart. Did you enjoy yourself at Nick and Emma's?"

Samantha nods and looks at Charlotte. "We have made a bunch of delicious cookies, haven't we, Char? And now we're going to see the cute bunnies. So see you later."

"Why are we whispering?" Charlotte asks with sparkling eyes.

"Because I want to surprise your mom. Where is she?"

Charlotte turns her upper body and points through the door. "Grandma Martha has left. But the rest are in the living room, talking about boring stuff. That's why Samantha and I are going outside."

The girls walk away and stroll over the grass, talking and laughing.

"I knew those two would hit it off," Alisha says with a smile. "Charlotte may be seven, but sometimes you forget that when she talks to you like a teenager."

The sound of voices coming from the living room makes me smirk. "Are you ready?"

"I'll wait here while you do your thing."

I nod and wink before straightening my facial features into an emotionless expression. Alisha tiptoes behind me and stops so she can listen to what's being said without being seen.

I gazethrough the room as I enter. Amanda and Bella are sitting on the three-seater couch by the fireplace chatting with each other, and Brian sits on the leather Chesterfield chair on the other side, talking with Nick and Emma, who share a chair.

All heads shift my way as I clear my throat.

"Cole, you're back." Emma smiles, but it fades when she doesn't see her blonde friend. "Where is Alisha?" she asks with apprehension.

"She didn't come. She stayed," I say monotone.

"What? Why?"

"Why did you lie to me, Emma? You said Alisha was waiting for me, but when I arrived, she was with another man." I cross my arms in front of my chest and knit my brows.
