Sol pointed. “Hey. Eyes on the road, remember?”

Butch jerked his head forward. “Compared to the others, I had it easy.”

“What do you mean?”

“All I had to do was go to Teague’s cabin. If Matt wants to hook up, he rents a room in a cheap hotel. I don’t know what Walt does. He doesn’t talk about his sex life. Paul neither. And before Teague, I was doing the same. I’d meet someone in a bar and we’d get off as fast as we could, then I’d drive back to the ranch. Salvation’s the only home we’ve got, but that doesn’t mean we can bring our own kinda guests there.”

“I guess it’s not an ideal situation.” Sol cleared his throat. “So, back to Teague…”

Another heavy sigh rolled out of him. “It couldn’t have been satisfying. I think I owe him an apology. I was a selfish jerk. When he ended it, all I could see was how it affectedme. Now, I can see it from his point of view.”

“You both did the right thing. Because now, you get to move on.” Sol smiled. “You have so much to look forward to.”

“What do you mean?”

“You spent all that time trying not to think about the fact that you were with a guy. Now, you can let yourself enjoy it.”

Butch managed a half-smile. “Years ago, I asked someone if sex with a guy was all that different.”

“I can’t speak about being with a woman—not something I’ve ever experienced—but I know what gets me going about being with a guy.” He closed his eyes. “The feel of muscles under my fingertips. The sounds he makes, low, urgent noises that tell me he’s loving what I’m doing. The smell of him, a rich musky scent that goes straight to my dick. The way his body wraps around my cock, sucking me in, holding me there. Being manhandled, rough one minute, then slow and sexy as fuck the next. The hardness of his body.” Sol smiled. “Sharing the taste of bourbon on his lips, his tongue claiming my mouth…”

Silence.

After a minute, Sol chuckled. “Something I said?”

Butch groaned. “I’m discovering for the first time how difficult it is to drive with a hard-on.”

Which was exactly the outcome Sol had been aiming for.

“Want me to shut up?”

“Yes. I mean… no.” Butch growled. “Christ, you’ve got me so fuckin’ hard I can’t even think straight.”

“There’s a reason for that.” Sol grinned. “You’re not straight.”

Butch fired him a glance. “You’re not gonna keep this up all the way to Wibaux, are ya?”

Sol figured not answering that question would tell Butch all he needed to know. Because he’d be doing his damnedest to make sure part of Butch’s anatomy stayed up.

Once they reached the inn, he’d have to decide if he was going to do anything about it.

Chapter 24

Butch held the key card against the door and went inside. “Let’s see what we’ve got here.” So far he’d spied a coffee machine in a little alcove near the front desk, and a vending machine. The swirling pattern on the carpet made his eyes ache, and he prayed the bed was comfortable.

Then he stopped. “Aw shit.”

Only one bed.

Sol dropped his bag to the floor. “I’ll go to the front desk, see if they’ve got another room.”

“Don’t bother.”

Sol frowned. “You’re obviously not happy about sharing, so—”

“Didn’t you hear the guy? They’ve got some huge-ass wedding in town tomorrow, and they just rented out the last room. So this is it. At least it’s a king.” Then he spotted the small couch against the wall, and that was enough to crack him up.

“What’s so funny?”
