Teague smiled. “Having a gay boss was miles better than having some homophobic asshole.”

It took a moment for his words to filter through.

“You’re gay?”

Teague nodded.

“I didn’t know.”

“No one knows—except the boss—and that’s the way I like it. That’s why I come up to Bozeman and Livingston. I keep that part of my life away from the ranch. It’s not ideal, though. Neither place is exactly awash with gay or bi guys.”

“Hang on a sec.” Butch was having a hard time trying to get his head around this new information. “You don’t tell anyone on the ranch you’re gay—but you’re okay with telling me?”

“Sure, now I know about you.”

Fuck.

“Now you knowwhatabout me?”

Teague frowned. “You’re into guys, same as me.”

“Says who?” Butch lowered his voice. “I’m just here having a drink, that’s all.”

“Uh-huh. And what I found interesting was who you were having a drink with.”

Oh shit.

“I just met him tonight. We started talking at the bar,” Butch explained.

Teague nodded. “And you’d have struck oil too, except for the fact Gordo has a thing for younger guys. Now ask yourself, how do I know this?” His eyes gleamed.

Butch’s jaw hit the floor. “You and him… you—”

“Play Hide the Salami? Yes sir, we’ve been known to do that on a few occasions.”

“I had no idea you were seeing someone.” Teague was a dark customer.

Teague cackled. “Jesus. It’s not like that. I hook up with lots of guys. Okay, maybe notlots, but when I can.” He cocked his head. “But it’s only fair I should tell you this is not the first time I’ve seen you in here.”

“Hardly surprising. This is where I come to drink.”

“Mm-hmm. I’ve seen you in Bozeman too at El Camino.” Teague’s gaze locked on his. “And every time I saw you, you were with someone I recognized.” He cocked his head to one side. “It’s okay, Butch. I’m not going to tell a soul.”

“Tell them what?” Butch’s stomach clenched and cold sweat popped out on his brow.

Teague studied him in silence, then took another long drink from his glass. He set the half-empty glass down and leaned forward.

“It’s no one else’s business who you fuck, all right? And I can see why guys would be interested.” He bit his lip. “There’s a reason I like hooking up with Gordo. Older guys do it for me every time. They’re just pretty thin on the ground in this town.”

“It’s not what you think,” Butch blurted.

Teague arched his eyebrows.

Butch leaned in, his voice low. “I’m not gay. I’m not bi. I… I have sex with guys—now and then—because it’s… convenient, that’s all. I don’t have feelings for any of ’em. It’s just sex, a means to an end.”

“By what kind of twisted logic doesn’t that make you gay or bi?”

“This isn’t something I do all the time, all right? We’re talking maybe six, seven times a year. And I’m always the top.”
