Sol’s skin prickled. Judging by the way Teague straightened, he had the same reaction.

“Yeah, they’re gay.” Teague gazed at Eric as if expecting a response, but Eric said nothing.

Frank gave a wry chuckle. “Two guys kissing? That’d be considered pretty tame where I live.”

“And where’s that?” Sol asked.

“LA. West Hollywood, to be exact.”

Sol laughed. “Yeah, I can see why you wouldn’t be fazed by guys kissing.”

“You know WeHo?” Frank’s smile lit up his eyes.

“Sure. Been to the Abbey more times than I can count.”

“Not been inside myself—not my kinda place—but it’s a popular spot, that’s for sure.”

Butch gave Sol a puzzled glance. “An abbey? With, like, monks?”

Sol grinned. “Not that kind of abbey. It’s a gay bar, and it’s famous. Hell. It’s probably the country’s biggest gay bar.”

Eric’s frown deepened. “You’re saying y’all don’t mind working for gay guys?”

Teague tilted his head to one side. “Why should we mind?”

Eric shrugged. “Some people might, y’know. Most might find it… unnatural.”

Crickets.

That prickle over Sol’s skin morphed into a trickle of unease down his spine.

Teague poured himself a glass of water and downed a third of it. He set the glass on the table. “Then I guess we’re not most people. We’re an easygoing bunch here.”

Sol had the impression Teague was trying hard to be polite.

“I suppose if you didn’t like it, you could always find another job someplace different,” Eric suggested.

Teague frowned. “What’s not to like? Robert’s a good boss. Him being gay doesn’t affect his ability to run this place. And if it comes to that, some of us are gay too, including the guy who made your supper.”

“And some of us are bi,” Butch added in a low voice.

Heads swiveled in his direction.

Butch’s chin was high, his shoulders held back. “Well, don’t act like you didn’t know.”

Zeeb cackled. “Oh, we knew, all right. We’re just tryin’ not to faint from hearing you admit it.”

Sol’s heart swelled.I am so fucking proud of you.

Teague’s warm expression led him to believe he wasn’t the only one.

Then Teague leaned forward, his gaze focused on Eric. “We don’t like to hide things around here. You take us as you find us.”

“It’s that deep end thing again, isn’t it? Didn’t someone say that last night?”

Smart man, Frank.

Teague nodded. “The boss isn’t hiding who he is, so why should we? I think it’s better to be upfront about it.” His smile was strained. “Makes for fewer surprises that way.”
