“My little feather,” Bennett’s voice is thick with emotion, “I’ve been trying to find a way to atone for how I treated you since the moment I found out you left. I did it because I needed to feel worthy of you before I found you and made you mine. I went about finding absolution the wrong way though. I should have always done it by worshiping at your feet. I’ve been waiting far too long to have you in my arms, and I can’t let you go again. If you’re not in my life, it has no meaning, no matter the good I’m doing.”

“Bennett,” I whimper and step closer to him, “I already forgave you.”

He smiles softly and nods. “I know and I’m grateful for it. Still, I want to spend the rest of my life loving you and earning your love. I can’t let you go again, Evelyn. I’ll never be able to let you go. Will you marry me and be my old lady?”

“Yes,” I gasp, barely believing what is going on right now.

The room erupts in cheers as Bennett slips the ring on my finger, but I don’t look away from his moss-gray eyes as he stands. That’s when I notice he has a cut draped over his arm. He holds it out for me, showing me the back, where it says ‘Property of Penance’ before he turns it around for me to slip my arms into.

The moment the leather wraps around me, rightness settles over me, heightened by the slight weight of his ring on my finger.

I grip the front of Bennett’s shirt and haul him closer to kiss him. He takes over almost immediately, and I melt into him. I readily give myself over to him because I know he’ll be there, holding out his cupped hands and waiting for the feather to float down into them.

I murmur against his lips, “I just have one question—where is all my stuff?”

Bennett laughs and promises, “I’ll show you.”

The next thing I know, I’m thrown over his shoulder and we’re heading to the door of the clubhouse. His large hand smooths over my ass and I try, really try, not to squirm on his shoulder.

“I thought we were having a party,” Bronco yells out tauntingly.

My man yells back, “We’ll be back. I need to show my old lady our home.”

There’s more cheering, but my mind gets stuck on the fact that we’re going home, wherever that is. I can’t wait.

PENANCE

When I stop at my bike, I let my woman slide down my body, feeling every curve as I do. My cock is already trying to rip through my jeans, but the need to feel her as close to me as possible is one I can’t ignore. I’m a little stunned she said she would marry me, and my heart is beating against the inside of my chest so hard it hurts.

When I woke up and saw Evelyn had taken all her stuff, I knew it was because the lockdown was lifted, and she was no longer in danger. That might be true, but her place is at my side. Always was and always will be.

I knew then what I had to do. I had to leave no doubt in her mind that I’m in love with her and that I want a life with her. Then she said yes.

She looks up at me and her navy eyes are sparkling with happiness. I cup her cheeks in my hands and kiss her softly. “I love you, little feather.”

“I love you too, Bennett.” She huffs, “Now show me where my stuff is. I was pissed when I saw my place empty.”

“I know. I saw your face,” I chuckle. “I wasn’t sure if you were going to rip into me before I had the chance to ask you to marry me.” She gives me a sheepish smile, but it melts along with the rest of her when I kiss her again. “So fucking beautiful,” I murmur.

I pull away from her, even though everything inside of me protests putting even the smallest amount of distance between us, to grab her helmet from my saddlebag. The way she clips her helmet on even though we haven’t had time for a ride together yet shows me just how brave my woman is.

I climb on my bike and then show her where to put her feet before I help her get on behind me. When she wraps her arms around me, it feels like something inside my soul slides into place. I give her hand a squeeze.

“Lean when I lean and relax, little feather. You’re going to love this.”

I start up my bike and she giggles, the sound free and floating. It makes me smile, something I forgot how to do without her in my life. Now it feels natural again; she did that for me.

Ashton looks relieved when he opens the gate for us, and I try not to growl when my old lady waves at him. I’m sure she has a huge smile on her face too. The only thing making it okay is knowing my club is her family just as much as it is mine, but I also know Evelyn’s loyalty lies with me first, just like mine with her.

When we stop in front of a Victorian house in a nice neighborhood with a good-sized yard and a swing hanging on the porch, Evelyn’s arms tighten around me. I get off my bike first and then help her. She stumbles a little as she stares up at the house and I’m not sure if it’s because of what she’s seeing or the ride.

Her voice is soft, almost like she’s afraid to ask, “Where are we?”

I guide my woman up the steps and to the front door before I hold up a key dangling from a metal feather keychain. “We’re home, little feather. Our home.”

Her eyes are big and round as she looks at me. “Our home? What do you mean? I thought you live at the clubhouse.”

“I do live at the clubhouse.” When she narrows her eyes at me, I’m quick to clarify. “Well, I did live at the clubhouse. I bought this place not long after you moved back to Seattle because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to let you go again. Some things needed to be redone, but I kept as much of the original home as I could.”
