Kian seemed doubtful. “I didn’t even know I worked for him, so I doubt anyone is going to be spilling company secrets here.”

“Probably not. But you like this job, right?”

He seemed reluctant to admit it, but eventually, he said, “I do.”

“Are we really going to let Caleb take yet another thing away from us?”

He sighed. “What’s the worst that could happen?”

I looked at him sharply, and he chuckled.

“Okay, yeah, I heard it. We probably can’t even imagine the worst that Caleb could come up with, can we?”

Unfortunately, I knew all too well how true that was.

VAUGHN

When my bedroom door opened at the ass crack of dawn, I rolled over, expecting Kian or Rebel, preferably both, to be sneaking into my room.

It was a rude awakening when it was a six-foot-six biker leaning on my doorframe with a scowl on his face. “Where’s Pix?”

“Good morning to you too. She’s out with Kian somewhere. They haven’t come home yet.”

Fang scowled some more.

“Jealous?” I asked him.

He actually pondered the question for a minute but still came out with, “No.”

“I am a bit.” I shifted onto my back and put my hands behind my head, sinking a little deeper into the softness of the pillow. “I was hoping you were them.”

Fang folded his arms over his chest and shrugged. “I don’t want to be jealous over her spending time with people she loves. And who love her. For as long as I’ve known her, she’s always seemed a little…I dunno. Lost, I guess. I think it’s what drew me to her in the first place, because fuck knows I was too. I have no family I talk to anymore. No friends until I came here and joined the Slayers. I think Rebel was the same.”

“She had her mom.”

Fang shook his head. “But she didn’t. Not really. I know she loved her mom, and she misses her, but her mom wasn’t really her family in anything but blood. Just like her dad isn’t.”

I didn’t like the way that made me feel. I hated the idea of her on her own. “She has Bliss.”

Fang nodded. “And Nash. They’re as close to a true family as anyone could ever hope for. But I don’t think it was enough for her. You know how she is. She needs people around her. People to love on. People who love her in return. I used to hate the idea of her with anyone else. But now, I don’t know. I see her with the two of you, and I’m just happy you love her too. I want her to have a family. And maybe I…”

He turned away.

I frowned at him, then let out a snort of laughter. “What the hell, Fang? Are you blushing right now?”

He scowled at me again and stuck his middle finger up in my direction. “Fuck off.”

“Finish what you were saying.”

He shoved off the doorway. “Doesn’t matter.”

He stalked away, down the stairs.

Something made me get up and follow him into to the kitchen. “No, come on. Seriously. Tell me.”

Fang just put on a pot of coffee, refusing to say anything.
