I nodded, relieved because I was truly exhausted after not sleeping all night and then coming straight here. I was well and truly ready to sink onto my bed and maybe even stay there until I had to go back to work on Monday.

Luca and I headed to the locker rooms, both of us dumping our gym bags on the low dressing bench.

He looked over at me as I pulled off my sweat-soaked tank top. “You showering?”

I opened my mouth to say yes, but then his gaze wandered down my body quickly before rising back to my eyes.

Instantly, the vibe between us felt different. And not in a way I wanted.

Maybe I’d imagined it. I took a fresh shirt from my bag and shook my head. “Nah, I’ll grab one at home. Thanks for today, though.”

Luca cocked his head to one side, pulling off a sweaty pair of shorts that left him completely naked. “You sure? Room for two in those showers.” His hand slid over his thigh toward his cock.

Fuck. There was no imagining that.

Not all that long ago, I would have joined Luca in that shower in a heartbeat. With his dark hair and tanned skin, he was exactly my type.

But my tastes had narrowed to only one dark-haired, bronzed-up man, and it wasn’t the one in front of me. “Gotta get home. My family is waiting for me.”

Luca shrugged and grabbed a towel. “You’re with that guy I saw you with at Gino’s?”

I shoved my gloves into my bag. “Vaughn. Yeah. The woman and the other man too.”

It felt a bit strange to say that out loud to someone. Except, we were. We were some weird little foursome that shouldn’t have worked. Except it really kind of did, if what we’d done at Gino’s that night was anything to go by.

I wasn’t going to fuck it up. Not with Luca.

Not with anyone.

Luca nodded. “Say hello to Vaughn for me.”

I paused in the doorway, finding that statement a bit odd. But Luca was already turning on the shower, and I didn’t want to stand there any longer when the man had made his position clear and I’d rejected it. No need to make it more awkward than it already was.

I waved to a few of the other guys as I passed through the gym and headed back out into the weekend sunshine. I unlocked the truck and threw my bag over to the passenger-side seat before turning the key in the ignition.

The engine gave a pathetic chug, and that was about it.

I groaned, slamming the heel of my hand down on the steering wheel. “Not again. Come on!”

I was so over this damn truck breaking down on me. I’d only just fixed the stupid thing. I tried it a couple more times, but it was in vain. It wasn’t going anywhere, and apparently, neither was I.

I got out and popped the hood, wrinkling my nose at the smell. Something was definitely not right if the burning odor was anything to go by. At least I had some tools with me and might be able to get it going enough to not have to call a tow truck.

I was elbow-deep in grease when Luca stopped beside me. “That doesn’t look good.”

“It’s not.” I dropped my wrench down onto the portable toolbox I carried around, exactly for situations like this. “It’s been on its last legs for a while, so I knew this was coming. I’m going to have to get it towed. I’m really sorry. I’m going to have to leave it sitting here for a bit until I can find someone to come get it.”

Luca shook his head. “I’ve got a guy. Leave me the key. I’ll get it home for you.”

“I can’t ask you to do that.”

“Why? Because I hit you up for a good time in the showers and you turned me down?” A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.

I laughed awkwardly. “Yeah, something like that.”

“My ego isn’t that easily dented. Come on, get in the car. I’ll drive you home.”

I could have called home for someone to get me, but Vaughn was busy trying to reach Brooke, and Fang and Rebel were hopefully getting some sleep. So I took Luca up on his offer. “That would be good. Thanks. I owe you one.”
