She shook her head in disbelief, then returned to stirring.

“I bet your sex life is clean too. Lipstick off before the kiss, and clothes folded before getting to bed.”

Henry blinked. The mock-teasing didn’t require an answer, but he found himself replying, anyway. “My sex life, or lack thereof, is none of your business…what? Why are you looking at me like that?”

“No one mentions lack thereof unless there isn’t any sex…” Her eyes widened, delight glinting at what she probably considered juicy information. “Oh, my heavens.”

He bit back a sigh. “What now?”

“Yes, well, don’t be surprised if they end up telling you something you don’t like.”

“I didn’t say I didn’t like it—and I didn’t say that I was interested!” she rushed before he could misinterpret.

“Are we done with this conversation?”

“Yes, Mr. Prim and Proper. If you want.”

“I want, Miss Sarcastic.”

“Then it’s done.”

“Good.”

“Good,” she echoed, pouting. “Now look at what you’ve done. It’s a bust.”

“I think it was a bust before our conversation started. Or maybe you’re just not as skilled as you thought you were.”

Maybe it was a little impulsive, but he couldn’t help it. Henry waited for her to take the bait and wasn’t surprised when her head snapped up and her gaze narrowed. Her eyes shifted in intensity as she looked ready to throw the staff at him.

“Why, you little—”
