I walk in and give him a kiss on his forehead. “Good night, mijo.”

“Good night, Mom.”

I close his door and walk back to my room. Another door in the hall clicks shut, and I look back to see that it was Az’s room. He still won’t talk to me, but he follows me around.

He was gone for three days, and I panicked the entire time, but Benji assured me he was just doing a job. It still didn’t stop the nerves from coming right up. I’m thinking it has something to do with us being mates. I crave to be around them all the time, but I don’t want to sound like I’m being too needy, so I haven’t pushed.

One of my guys sleeps next to me every night, and so far, they’ve been trading off.

Ash still hasn’t talked to me about the night we had sex, and I know none of the others would. They think that Ash is better at talking about serious shit like this, but he’s probably the worst at it.

He’s so serious about everything. The night at the brothel was the only time I’ve seen him let loose, and I thought I was seeing a new side of him the night we had sex—until he tried to kill me.

Once inside of my room, I stare into the mirror with a sigh, focusing on the violet specks in my eyes that have slowly begun to overpower my normal shade of brown.

I tentatively bring my hand to touch the heart tattoo and gasp.

“Holy fucking shit!” I shout.

I need to go back to the tattoo shop.

It’s late, so I won’t be going today, but I plan on asking Az to go with me tomorrow. I’m tired of him avoiding me, and maybe the extra time together will give us the chance to resolve our issues.

I get why he’s mad at me. We had a moment together, and I’ve completely disregarded it and his feelings since everything has happened with Ava. I know he gave a lot of himself when we were together, and I really hope he can forgive me for how I’ve gone about things since.

Chapter nine

Az

Thenextmorning,I’mtwirling my knife restlessly in bed when her cherry-sweet scent hits me and my body stiffens.

I wait to see if she’s going to knock, but I quickly grow impatient . Instead of stomping to the door and ripping it open, I walk to my closet and pull out a drawer to organize my ropes. Keeping my hands busy helps keep my mind busy.

I grab my favorite rope and can’t help the way my mind immediately pictures it tightly twisted around Kat’s curves. I can’t even think about it without getting hard. She hasn’t spoken to me since the night I nearly killed her, and I know that I should be the one to approach her, but I’m hurt she has barely been able to look at me.

There’s finally a knock on the door, but I don’t get up from my position to answer it. She tries the handle, but it’s locked.

My cock stiffens at the thought of her wanting to come into my room. When my phone rings, I pick it up from the floor and watch Kat’s name flashing across the screen.

I don’t want to answer it, so I continue to arrange my ropes aimlessly to distract myself. On the last ring, I finally give in and pick it up, but I say nothing as her soft sigh fills the line.

“Hey grumpy. I didn’t think you were going to answer.” My body immediately reacts to her sweet voice, begging for me to open the door and let her through, but I keep my position like the stubborn man I am.

“I wasn’t going to, and I’m notgrumpy,” I add, maybe only to convince myself that I’m not.

“Yeah, you are,” she says with a small chuckle. I want to open the door and see her beautiful smile in person, and I have to push myself to remain in place. “Well, if you don’t want to come with me, I’ll just have to go by myself.”

My wolf and I sit straighter. There’s no way we’re letting Kat go anywhere by herself. “Where are you going?” I try not to sound too desperate, but that’s exactly how it comes out.

“I’m not telling you that until you open the door.” A loud growl comes up from deep in my belly. I know she heard it through the phone, but she doesn’t say anything about it.

I grudgingly get up from the floor and walk to the door to open it. Kat’s there leaning on the doorway with her phone in hand. The first thing I notice is her cheesy smirk.

She’s so damn perfect. I grip the door handle tightly; it gives me something to do when all I want is to fist her hair and put two fingers in between her plump lips.

“Hey, Az,” she drawls, and I want to crush my lips to hers, but I stand there and wait. I know I’m being petty, but she hasn’t looked for me once. She ran away from me because she didn’t trust that I wasn’t going to hurt her again.

“This is the first time I’ve seen you in a long time. Although. . .” She gets closer to me and runs her index finger down the small opening of my red button-up. “I can feel you following me everywhere,” she whispers. “You watch me everywhere I go.” She’s not wrong. I’m not letting her get far if I can help it.
