When underground, Amon had told his coven that Sonny was his mate. Andrew and Zach had been thrilled, and though some of the members were happy for them, some acted indifferent. Amon didn’t care. Just as long as he and Sonny were happy, that was all that mattered to him.

Amon removed the cleaning cloth and spray from Sonny’s hands and guided him away from his cart. Eleazar would make sure that everything was in order in no time, because the coven leader didn’t like disorder.

If you asked Amon, Eleazar was a little anal about cleanliness and everything in its place. Amon had no idea why and had never asked. Some people just functioned better when they controlled their surroundings.

As they walked through the halls, Amon felt the tension in Sonny’s body. He gently took Sonny’s hand and pulled him close, resting his chin on his mate’s head. “It’s okay,” Amon whispered. “We’re safe now.”

Sonny nodded but still held on to Amon tightly. They finally reached Amon’s room, and he led Sonny inside, closing the door behind them. The room was perfectly clean and undisturbed by the chaos outside.

Amon sat on the bed, pulling Sonny onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around him, holding him close. They sat in silence for several moments, just taking comfort in each other. They’d been underground together, but others had been around, and although Amon didn’t care, Sonny had busied himself with Andrew and Zach.

It was seeing the aftermath of the fire that had hit Sonny hard.

“I’m sorry,” Sonny whispered.

“For what?”

“For being such a mess.”

“There’s nothing to apologize for.” Amon pressed a kiss to Sonny’s temple. “You went through a traumatic experience. It’s natural to be upset. You don’t have to clean up the mess. Let Eleazar take care of it. He’s called in the repair company, so everything will be taken care of.”

Sonny looked up at him, his eyes finally meeting Amon’s. “I know,” he said quietly. “It’s just that… I don’t know what to do with myself right now. Cleaning has always helped me work through my problems. I’ve been like that my entire life.”

Amon nodded, understanding. “I get it. But right now, you don’t have to do anything except take care of yourself. Let me take care of you.” He leaned in and pressed his lips to Sonny’s, a gentle touch filled with comfort.

They stayed like that for a while, simply kissing and holding each other. Eventually, Sonny pulled away and looked around Amon’s room. “At least let me clean your room.”

“Why?” Amon glanced around. “It’s clean.”

Sonny huffed. “You have a pile of clothes on your chair, the bed isn’t made, and the bathroom could probably use a good scrub.”

Amon saw now that his mate was determined to clean. He left his room, retrieved Sonny’s cleaning cart, and brought it to him. “Have at it.”

Sonny appeared relieved as he got to work. Amon moved out of his way, admiring how focused his mate was. When he was done, they went to Sonny’s bedroom, where Sonny started cleaning again.

If this was what it took to help his mate get through this, Amon would follow Sonny around the entire estate until there wasn’t a speck of dust left.

“Did you hear what happened?” Logan asked as he walked into Rayne’s office.

“You’ll have to be more specific,” Rayne said when he looked up.

“Someone set fire to Eleazar’s estate.” Logan sat across from him as Rayne sat back in his chair. “Fire department put it out, and from what I hear, he already has a company repairing the damages.”

Although Rayne hated Eleazar with a passion, he agreed with the vampire that balance needed to be maintained. Vampires couldn’t outnumber the wolves and vice versa. If Eleazar’s coven had been wiped out, chaos would have followed.

“Does he know who did it?”

Logan shrugged. “I don’t know. But I learned something a lot more interesting.”

“Are you seriously going to make me ask?”

With a shit-eating grin, Logan said, “You remember that human servant Eleazar hired?”

Rayne nodded. He and Felix had run into Andrew outside of a coffee shop, and Felix had warned Andrew that he was working for vampires, which Andrew hadn’t been aware of. Rayne had agreed that the human had a right to be informed of what he was working for, so Felix had spilled the beans.

“Turns out, Andrew is his mate.”
