God, how Stone wanted to put his fist through the bastard’s face. “Nope. I want to talk to Eleazar.” One would think that Shayde would be more hospitable since it was Stone who’d saved Andrew and Zach from their kidnapper and Zach was Shayde’s mate.

Shayde curled his lip, looked Stone over, then said, “Stay right here.”

“What, you’re not going to give me a tour?” Stone asked. “How disappointing.”

With a roll of his eyes, Shayde walked away. Stone looked around. The fire had reached pretty far inside the house, but things seemed untouched farther down the large hallway. Even the ceiling above Stone’s head was scorched, and the acrid smell was fucking with his senses.

Eleazar appeared moments later, his expression hostile. Stone didn’t think that was aimed at him. He was probably still livid about the fire. “Stone.”

“Eleazar,” he said then told Eleazar about what he’d learned of Slater and his new group. “I’m willing to bet he’s behind this.”

Stone wasn’t normally willing to help vampires, but that group was a threat to all preternatural, and if Eleazar could wipe them out, all the better. Stone also planned on telling Rayne about them, because, after all, Rayne was the alpha of the wolves.

He didn’t know the other coven leader, Lazarus, so Stone would leave it up to Eleazar to tell him.

Eleazar stood there statue-like, almost as if he wasn’t even alive. That shit creeped Stone the fuck out.

“Sonny will need your protection tomorrow morning,” Eleazar finally said.

Stone frowned. “You want him to run errands after this happened?”

It looked as if Eleazar was mulling something over, and then he said, “It seems Sonny needs to keep busy to deal with this.”

That was something Stone could relate to. “I’ll be here at nine.”

With a nod, Eleazar walked away.

The prick could have at least thanked Stone for the information.

It was one thing to keep busy to deal with what had happened, but Sonny wasn’t so sure he wanted to go out. Stone had arrived, but Sonny hesitated. He had a target on his back, and he was willing to bet his life that Slater had been behind the fire.

“It’s totally up to you,” Stone said from the repaired doorway.

The crew had done an amazing job, working through the night to secure the house. They’d even installed a door, and Sonny wasn’t sure how they’d gotten a door in the middle of the night. Maybe they stocked them.

There were even small sections of glass on either side of the door. Amon had informed him that the glass reflected light, keeping the sun from coming inside. The company must have kept the glass in stock, because there was no way they would have that on hand at a moment’s notice.

And why in the hell was Sonny focusing on that?

Even though Amon had comforted Sonny last night, helping him work through his shock, making love to him twice, Sonny was still feeling out of sorts. “No, we can go.”

The kitchen needed to be stocked, because Andrew kept eating everything late at night, and Sonny still had to run Eleazar’s errands, plus grab all the dry cleaning. And Zach had begged him last night to pick him up some more tacos. Sonny wasn’t sure why. He could easily make them, but Zach was in love with the ones from Tequila.

Stone’s expression softened. “I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”

“You can’t say that,” Sonny replied. “You told Eleazar that there were a lot of members in Slater’s fanatical group. Humans who can come out during the day. Any one of them could attack us.”

Stone growled. “I’d like to see them try. I’m not trying to be a badass, Sonny. I have friends who are willing to watch our backs. We won’t be alone out there.”

That got a small smile out of Sonny. “You have bodyguards watching the bodyguard?”

“Yep. You ready?”

That made Sonny feel a little better but not much. Once he was outside, he couldn’t help but look around. Not that he was an expert in spotting men who could be hiding anywhere, but he quickly jumped into Stone’s truck and locked his door.

As Sonny shopped in the grocery store, Stone pointed out where his friends were in the store, simply keeping an eye on them.
