“You’re gonna let me walk out of here,” Slater said. “If you don’t, Sonny is dead.”

“What about your men?” Eleazar smirked, but it was a deadly smirk that said no such thing was happening.

Sonny felt Slater shrug. “Sorry, guys, but you’re on your own.”

Amon flew toward Slater as the rest of Slater’s men tried to fight their way out. Amon knocked the gun from Slater’s hand just as the gun went off. Sonny shouted as he hit the floor, and then he rolled away from the fight, his face throbbing in pain from the earlier backhand and from his face slapping the floor.

The wolf leapt toward Sonny, and for a crazy moment, he thought Stone was going to attack. Instead, Stone used his sharp teeth to free Sonny from the ropes. Then he stood next to Sonny, as if protecting him. Sonny watched as Eleazar and his men laid waste to the humans. Their fighting was graceful, unlike the humans who fought unsteadily.

Sonny was in awe of the way Joaquin fought, killing three humans in a matter of seconds. Eleazar seemed untouchable. He killed with such ease that he could have been eating a sandwich with one hand.

But the look on his face said he wasn’t fucking around.

Sonny looked over to his mate and Slater. The fight was already over. Amon stood there with Slater’s bloody heart in his hand.

Gross. Now Sonny wouldn’t be able to get that image out of his head for a very long time.

Amon rushed to Sonny, dropping to one knee. Sonny shrank back.

“Are you afraid of me?” Amon looked stricken.

“No, I’m afraid of you touching me with that bloody hand.” But Sonny launched himself at his mate, holding on to Amon so tightly that he would have broken the guy’s ribs if he’d been stronger. “You found me.”

“I’ll always find you,” Amon whispered, holding Sonny close. “Don’t worry. My hand isn’t touching you.”

Sonny laughed then winced at the pain in his face.

“I love you.” Amon cupped Sonny’s cheek with his clean hand. “I love you so much, Sonny Bunny.”

After what he’d just been through, Sonny wouldn’t complain about Amon using his nickname in front of everyone. He smiled through his bruises and said, “I love you, too.”

He sank into the embrace, knowing that no matter what happened in his life, he would always be safe with Amon.

“That was something else,” Sonny said as he and Amon walked into Amon’s bedroom. Now their bedroom because Amon had asked if Sonny would move in with him, and his mate had agreed.

“I wasn’t expecting so many people,” Amon said. “It was nice.”

Amy had invited the rest of the family to dinner, and Sonny had appeared overwhelmed by their presence. He’d even gotten a little teary-eyed, after which Amon had pulled his mate into his arms and kissed him.

Sonny’s sisters had fussed over their brother, and the kids had loved Amon, as did Sonny’s brothers-in-law.

Amon had come up with another excuse why he couldn’t eat, stating he was allergic to seafood because Amy had made salmon. Even though Amon didn’t eat food, he grimaced at the sad state of the burned fish.

Dale had whispered to Sonny that Sonny must have warned Amon about Amy’s cooking and that was why he kept making excuses. Amon had heard them and smirked as Sonny went with it and simply smiled conspiratorially at Dale.

Now they were home, and Amon loved how flushed and happy his mate seemed. They’d killed Slater and his group, though Amon was sure he hadn’t seen the last of those who despised vampires. Cash was still out there somewhere, and no doubt he was recruiting more people to his cause.

At least the threat to Sonny was gone. Now his mate ran his errands on his own, though Amon still worried about him when he wasn’t home.

“That wasn’t too much for you, was it?” Sonny asked. “My family can be a bit overwhelming.”

“Are you kidding?” Amon pulled Sonny into his arms. “They made me an official family member. I haven’t had family, aside from my coven, in centuries.”

Sonny’s eyes warmed. “You’re my family, Amon.”

Amon gave him a soft kiss. “And you’re mine.”
