We both freeze.

"I uh...I love your pussy," he says.

"And I have to go to work."

I extract myself from him in a hurry, getting out of the bed and heading toward the bathroom. I turn on the shower without saying another word, and I hear him come in a few minutes later.

"So...we're gonna forget that ever happened, right?" he asks.

I let the water run over my face, wondering what the hell I should say. I've never had such good sex that I fell in love--but I guess there's a first time for everything. Still, now isn't the time...

...and loving him would be letting go of my job.

"I don't think forgetting will be so easy," I murmur. "But we can try, I guess."

"Well it has to be easier than that crazy fuckathon last night," he says. "That was a whole 'nother level of crazy."

"Yeah," I say. "I'm already missing it."

"Me too," he murmurs.

The shower door opens and he steps in, pulling the sliding glass door shut. I can feel him behind me, his cock pressing against my ass. It instantly gets hard--though I have no idea how, when he should be totally exhausted.

I was just coming. How can I be wet and hot and ready to go again? I guess I never said that I was done having sex with him.

"Can we..." I start.

But he wraps me up in his arms and kisses me hard.

"Birdie," he says, "you never have to ask."

And then he fucks me again in the shower.

And I forget--just a little bit--that I'm falling in love.

Chapter fourteen

Johnny

Iknowforafact that I can't go another day without fucking her. Maybe for the rest of my life. I fully believe I coulddieif I don't get inside Birdie Hart again within twenty-four hours.

Which is why, after I swing by the rink for practice, I end up calling Jake.

"Hey, man!" he says. "It's been a while. Figured you'd be busy for the season and hit me up for work when you come back."

"Yeah...about that," I say. "I was thinking I might come up to Fern Hollow for a bit this weekend. Money's tight and I wondered if you and the Hart brothers have any work for me?"

"Always do," Jake says. "You should join us for dinner! My sister's coming up too; maybe you could carpool."

"That's a great idea," I say. "I'll give her a call. You're sure I'm not putting you and Sarah out?"

"You were my first friend in this town, Playfair--and Carina always likes seeing her Uncle Johnny," he says. "You should get your butt up here as soon as possible."

"Is that Johnny?" I hear Sarah call from the other room.

"Sure is!" Jake calls back. "We've got room for him at the table, right?"

"Always," Sarah laughs. "Is it because Birdie's coming over, though?"
