“Nice to meet you.”

Jade looks so uncomfortable it makes me smile. Is she that nervous about me meeting her parents? It’s not like she has to come out of the closet right here on the driveway.

“What have you girls been up to?” he asks, shoving his hands into his pockets.

“We were just doing a little shopping,” I reply, gesturing to the discreet black bag Jade is holding.

“Nice,” he says with a pleased smile. “You’ll have to show me inside, Cupcake.”

Jade groans. “Okay, well, thank you, Eden.” She waves to me as if to get rid of me, and I send her a confused expression.

“How did you two meet?” Will asks.

“Dad, Eden really has to get going. Her son is going to get off the bus soon,” Jade says, cutting him off.

“A mutual friend,” I say, shooting him a polite grin.

His eyes linger on me a moment longer, and Jade starts tugging on his arm.

With a laugh, he looks back at me. “Well, goodbye, Eden. It was nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you,” I repeat as I head back to my car. “I’ll see you later, Jade,” I call up to her before she disappears into her house.

I don’t get to the club until after eleven. After putting Jack to bed, I had a million things to do before Madison came over, including showering and getting ready.

I’ve been anxious about tonight since I dropped Jade off. I don’t normally enjoy going into a submissive role, but for her, I will—gladly.

Jade is unconventional. The entire time I thought I was mentoring her to be more assertive and independent, I finally realized that she was all of those things all along. She does it in her own way. It’s like…sweet dominance. She holds her own, demands what she wants, and isn’t afraid to put herself first, all while looking like a bubblegum princess.

It’s hot as fuck.

I’m sitting at the bar, making another napkin list, when I look up to find Geo smiling at me.

“Red wine?” he asks since I don’t order the same thing every night. It all depends on my clients and my plans. Sometimes I’ll drink, and sometimes I won’t.

“Not tonight,” I reply. “Just a club soda with lime. Thanks, Geo.”

“Of course,” he says as he fixes my drink.

While he’s filling the glass, his eyes stay on me. “There’s a change in the air.”

“A change?” I ask, not really liking the sound of that. I hate when things change.

“Yeah. First, Maggie left. Now Emerson works from his home office. It’s only a matter of time before someone else steps in, right?”

I rest my arms on the bar and glare up at him through my lashes. “Did Emerson put you up to this?”

With a laugh, he furrows his brow. “No. Put me up to what?”

I calm my expression. He really doesn’t know. “He…offered me a job,” I say carefully.

That makes Geo’s glossy full lips pull into a wide smile. “Of course he did. Who else would he ask?”

“I don’t know if I’m going to take it,” I reply.

Solemnly, he nods, leaning against the counter behind him. “They’ll need to bring someone in eventually.”
