Should you choose to attend, you will have full access to the club, including the VIP suite, voyeur rooms, and all other facilities the club has to offer.

At the bottom of the invitation, it says the party is this Saturday night at ten p.m. Immediately after reading it, I call Clay. He picks up on the first ring.

“I got my invitation,” I say without a greeting.

“So did I,” he replies.

“What should we do?” I ask while chewing on my thumbnail.

“It’s your call, babe.”

“No, it’s not, Clay. It’sourcall. If we go to the club and we hear her out, then it affects both of us. I need to know how you feel about this. If we feel differently, we’ll handle that.”

The line goes silent for a second, and I wait with bated breath for his response. Deep down, I want to go. I want to hear her out, and I pray she really does apologize and make it right so we can have a second chance at something amazing. But if that’s not what Clay wants, then I need to prepare myself for that.

“I want to go,” he mumbles after a heavy sigh.

I smile as my knee bounces anxiously. “Me too.”

“Good.”

“Good,” I reply with the same optimistic tone.

“Jade,” he says.

“Yeah?”

“No matter what happens, I love you.”

There’s not a chance I will ever tire of hearing him say those words to me. I should feel bad that it took Clay having his heart broken to bring him to me, but in all honesty, I’m grateful for it. Not only did that heartbreak change him into the man I love, but if she had never lost him the first time, he never would have been mine.

This is why I’m not worried, because I know it’s true. No matter what happens, we have each other. Falling back on my bed, I stare at the ceiling as I reply, “No matter what, I love you too.”

Rule #48: Speak from the heart.

They’re not here yet. It’s ten thirty, and there is absolutely no sign of them.

Other than that, the night is a total success. The club is full, and people seem to be having a great time.

I’m surrounded by familiar faces, and everyone is stopping to congratulate me and welcome me as a member of the team. It’s surreal.

I just wish I could enjoy it.

“Well, it’s about damn time,” a familiar female voice says from behind me. I spin away from the bar to find Maggie standing a foot away and smiling at me with a smug expression. She’s holding a glass of white wine, and her hair is shorter than the last time I saw her. I let out a shriek as I throw my arms around her and pull her in for a tight hug.

“Oh my God,” I cry out, not letting her out of my embrace. “I didn’t know you were coming!”

“Like I would miss this,” she replies with a laugh as I finally let her go and admire her new look.

“You look amazing,” I say while I play with her wavy, short hair.

“So do you,” she replies, admiring my shimmery black pantsuit.

As I stare at Maggie, I can’t help but feel a little emotional. I didn’t realize how much I missed having her around until now. She was the timid businesswoman with a hidden Domme that was an absolute delight to watch her embrace and discover.

Then she and her boyfriend left to run the new club in Arizona, and I hardly kept in touch much after that. Have I always been such a bad friend? Always closing people off as often as I can.
