“No, man. I don’t care who the fuck you are. You don’t disrespect my sister like that.”

“I’m not… I didn’t mean it like it sounded. I have to talk to her.”

Caroline patted my arm. “I think what she needs is space right now. You understand that, right? Mr. Heart.”

“I’m not…my name isn’t-”

“Oh honey, you just broke my daughter’s heart,” she said calmly, her expression equal parts fury and pity. “I don’t really care what your name is. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get a Frappuccino. You have much success with your hockey career.”

Without another word towards me, Miguel stood and joined his family at the counter.

And just like that I was dismissed by the entire Tyler-Branch family.

Friday morning, an email was distributed team-wide that Olivia Tyler-Branch was no longer with the team. That she would be starting with the Montreal Voyageurs in two week’s time and the Bruisers’ organization wished her the best of luck with her new team.

The calls and texts started to come as soon as I got to Montreal. I should have blocked his number, but I didn’t. Couldn’t. However, I was strong enough not to pick up his calls.

Just too weak not to read his texts.

Dillon: Liv, please pick up the phone. It can’t end this way between us. I won’t let that be the last thing you hear me say, because it isn’t true.

Dillon: I found the condoms and the dildo in your office. Fuck. Olivia, that isn’t a harmless prank. I took it to the General Manager and HR. We had a team meeting, so far no one is fessing up. But I’m going to find out who did this. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I’m so sorry you didn’t think you could tell me. You’re the strongest person I know.

Dillon: Did you see they are making another Tour de France documentary?

* * *

Dillon: O’Rourke says hi. He’s sitting out the next game with me. Sometimes I forget he’s only 24. Did you know he was married?

* * *

Dillon: You’re not texting me. Clearly. You’re stubborn as fuck. You know that about yourself, right?

* * *

Dillon: I miss you. It’s the thing I’m absolutely not allowed to say, right? I mean, all of this is my fault. I invited you back to Calico Cove. I made you stay with me at my place. I made all of that shit happen. It was just… I liked you, Liv. I liked spending time with you so much even though I knew it was a mistake. I still like you. I needed to say it. Maybe you’ll read this, maybe you won’t, but I needed to say it. I like you more than anyone.

Dillon: My agent called and the team is making noise about me not playing. I have to play. I’m sorry I didn’t make the person pay for what he did. I’m sorry for everything, Liv.

* * *

Dillon: We open at Cleveland. I’m going to score and when I do, I’ll find the camera. When you see me looking into it, I’m looking at you. So watch. Okay. You hear me, Liv?
