“I had my assistant prepare that presentation just for you,” Kyle says.

I don’t even know how he was able to get the presentation to Ryan’s people for them to load it up for the press conference.

“You see,” Kyle turns to the crowd and cameras, “the homes Ryan believed were illegally obtained and used for whatever nonsense he dreamt up, are actually part of our charity program. For decades, Townsend Industries and my family have been involved in sheltering those who are less fortunate. We simply chose not to brag about it to the media.”

He pauses.

“It’s tacky.” He shrugs.

“But since you and your nephew tried to use your resources to get back at my family for the pathetic excuse of a brother of yours … well, we must expose this act of philanthropy on our part.”

“That’s a lie!” Ryan declares. “Those homes are where your family attacks, threatens, and even kills to get what you want!” he seethes.

Kyle doesn’t even look flustered when he answers. “Ryan, I’m a little concerned about your mental well-being. As you can see, the proof is right in front of you. I’ve even invited a few of our past recipients to speak with the media on the new homes they received from our generous donations. Oh,” Kyle snaps, “and starting tomorrow,The Williamsport Dailywill run an eight-week series on the project. You all should check it out.”

He smiles to the crowd, truly putting on a show.

“For now, though, Ryan, you will likely need to speak with an attorney regarding charges of bribery and blackmail that these friendly officers are arresting you for.”

A team of agents shoves through a few reporters and their cameras to approach Ryan.

“This is absurd!” Ryan declares as the agents grab him to slap cuffs on his wrists.

“Don’t worry,” Kyle tells him. “The SEC, FBI, and local police have all the evidence to back up every word my wife and I have stated today.”

All I can hear are reporters asking a slew of questions, and cameras clicking as they take shot after shot of Ryan’s arrest.

Right as he’s escorted past us, Kyle grabs Ryan’s arm. “I will find out who you were working with within my company. Don’t fucking worry,” he says low enough for only me and Ryan to hear.

A satisfied thrill pushes through me as Ryan’s carted off, along with two other city council members.

“It’s time for us to go,” Kyle murmurs in my ear as he slides his hand around my waist.

“I want to see all of this,” I say, not looking his way.

“And I want to be alone with my wife.” He says it so close to my ear that his lips lightly brush against my skin. Goosebumps spread down my neck and over my arms. His hold around my waist tightens, pulling me flush against his body.

Despite the attention now turning our way, I can only think of being alone with him.

“No questions,” Kyle says, with one hand shielding me and the other wrapped around my shoulders.

Security is there to shield us the rest of the way to the car.

Once we get in, I ask, “You think there’s someone else involved?”

He nods. “I suspect Ryan Nick is working with someone inside of Townsend Industries.”

“It would have to be someone high up,” I say, confused. “The police will also arrest Dean for his part in all of this.”

Kyle nods. “They’ll all get what’s coming to them. Right now, I don’t want to talk about them. Come here and let me convince you to work for the family business,” he growls.

Kyle

“You should work for Townsend Industries,” I tell Riley as I pull her onto my lap to straddle me. I’m happy as hell she opted to wear a skirt for today’s press conference.

She laughs. “I already do for a few more weeks.”
