Frowning, I stand up straight. “What the hell are you doing?”

“Please, please,” he begs. “Don’t!”

I roll my eyes. “I won’t.”

He pushes out a heavy breath and looks at me with terrified but hopeful eyes. “You won’t?”

I shake my head. “No.” I shrug. “Not like this. I just brought you out here to talk.”

I crouch low before placing the bow and arrow in my lap.

“You know attacking my woman was fucked up, right?”

He blinks and looks around.

“Don’t look at them. Look at me since you did it to hurt me, isn’t that correct?”

He nods cautiously. “I-I just needed the money and it’s not right that my father left the money to you. When Gabriel went missing, I thought you did something to him.”

“So you decided to attack the love of my life,” I finish for him.

“Why is he still fucking talking?” Damon demands to know. “Put an arrow in his fucking head and let’s be done with this.”

Rodrigo looks over my shoulder in confusion.

I look from Damon back to him. “The woman you attacked is also his daughter.”

He blinks as if understanding.

“He’s the one who taught her how to fight, too.” I chuckle, remembering the way Monique had this bastard on the ground crying out for help.

“And shoot a gun,” Damon adds. “You’re lucky she didn’t have her piece on her. This conversation wouldn’t be happening.”

I frown. “Then I wouldn’t have the satisfaction of doing this.” I rise to my feet. “Stand up.”

When he doesn’t move fast enough, I pull him to his feet.

“I told you I wasn’t going to shoot you.”

I hear Damon suck his teeth behind my back. I glance back to see Uncle Josh place a hand on his shoulder and whisper something in his ear. He visibly relaxes.

“I won’t shoot you … without giving you a chance to run.”

He stands there, mouth wide as if waiting for me to say more.

I push out a harsh breath and step to the side, out of his way. I spread my free arm toward the open forest around us.

“I’m giving you a head start. A full sixty seconds before I come looking for you. Once I catch you …” I punctuate the sentence by lowering my bow and aiming it.

“Your time starts now,” I say when he doesn’t move.

He continues to stare at me with wide eyes.

“Fifty-nine, fifty-eight, fifty-seven,” my dad starts counting.

“I suggest you start moving. We don’t have all fucking day,” Kyle says with his usual amount of impatience.

“As much as I would like for this to take all day, my cousin is correct.” I move behind Rodrigo and shove him with my foot. “Fucking move.”
