EPILOGUE

Monique

One month later

“What are we doing out here?” I ask Diego as he turns onto a long, gravel road. I immediately know where the road leads. My heart sinks a little at the reminder that this place that once was ours is owned by someone else.

We haven’t been out here since that day we returned from the Blairwood Art Fair. Though, I’ve yearned to come out here again. So many of the special moments in my life, along with some of the low points, were followed by a visit to this place.

“The fence will prevent us from going in,” I say before he can answer my previous question.

“There’s a new owner.”

My frown is instant. I hate the idea of this place being owned by someone else.

“The gate is locked,” I tell Diego when we come to the same fence that kept us out last time.

“Hang on,” he says as he throws the car in park.

I watch as he climbs out and heads directly to the fence. To my surprise, he pulls a key out of his pocket and opens the lock. Next, he undoes the chain and tosses it to the side, opening the fence.

I can’t sit in my seat. I climb out of the car. “What is this?”

“I thought I told you to wait in the car.” He narrows his eyes on me.

I can’t even help the way my nipples tighten from that look. “I’ll let you spank me later for not listening.”

A spark passes through his eyes, and I know I’m going to be a little sore later on. It’ll be worth it.

“Why do you have the key for the fence?” I ask, although I’ve already put two and two together.

He takes my hand in his and brings it to his lips. “Since you don’t listen, let’s walk the rest of the way.”

It’s not an answer to my question but I know he won’t give up any information before he’s good and ready.Stubborn man.

“The barn’s still standing but it won’t be for much longer.” He points about a hundred feet ahead of us where the old barn stands. “It’s too dangerous to go inside,” he says, turning to me, “so I opted to do this outside.”

He spins me around, and I see a beautiful red and white checkered blanket spread over a part of the lawn. An array of food sits on top of the blanket.

“Is that champagne?” I ask.

He nods and leads me to the blanket. “A celebration always needs champagne.”

I want to ask what we’re celebrating but I bite my tongue. I have an idea and I’m halfway bursting at the seams to yell out an answer.

“Are you hungry?” he asks as he helps me to take a seat in front of the beautiful spread of food. He obviously had to have help to set all of this up.

“Yes,” I say. “But we can get to the food later. Answers.”

He lowers himself in front of me and presses a quick kiss to my lips. “So impatient. Didn’t I warn you about that last night?”

I squirm a little remembering the way he made me wait over and over last night. And when he finally let me orgasm, I almost passed out. The seam of my panties becomes saturated just from the memory.

“Patience does have its benefits,” I concede.

His smile widens. “That’s my girl.”

“But you can still ask me the question.”
