Finally, he looked at the man next to them. The one Becca had been in the middle of a conversation with.

“Oh, hey Toby,” he greeted.

Okay, so not the creep.

“Beau,” Toby said, tipping his head. “Good to see you.”

“Am I interrupting something?” Beau suddenly realized that Toby seemed tense. Shouldn’t he be happy? If he was in on this little plan to throw Beau and Becca together, he should be thrilled with this kiss. Instead, he looked annoyed. Like Beau had interrupted something.

“Yeah, actually,” Toby said. “But it’s a good thing. This isn’t the place for this discussion. I’m going to go slam back some champagne, stuff my face with cake, and dance with my hot fiancé.” He turned and headed across the ballroom.

Beau frowned and looked at Becca. She was watching Toby go, looking upset.

That wasn’t okay.

Beau took her hand. They were going to dance. Out there, they could stand close and talk quietly without anyone interrupting.

He pulled her onto the dance floor. She followed willingly.

“So tell me what that was about with Toby,” he said as he turned to face her and pulled her in close.

With her heels, she was at an even better height for dancing and she looped her arms around his neck and pressed close.

They started moving and Beau rested his hands on her hips. Okay, lower than her hips. They were right above the curve of her ass. He appreciated that this was great for the show. Because it was exactly where his hands wanted to be. They’d always fit along those curves perfectly.

She looked up at him. “You don’t want to hear that.”

“I don’t?”

“No. You’re here as my pretend jealous boyfriend. This is supposed to be hot and sexy.” She frowned. “And there is nothing hot or sexy about any ofthat.”

“On the outside to everyone looking in, I’m here as your jealous boyfriend. If they watch us, it can seem hot and sexy. But I’m actually here as your friend, Bec. I want to know.”

“How are we going to talk about something like that? Something that is depressing and upsetting, and still make it seem hot and sexy?”

“Are you challenging me?”

She laughed softly. “No. Honest question.”

He moved his hand a little lower and spread his fingers so that his palm encompassed most of her left ass cheek. Then he pulled her up against him more tightly. Her breath hitched. Then he leaned in, putting his lips against her ear.

“Kinda like this.” He took his other hand and rested it on her bare shoulder blade. He stroked the pads of his index and middle finger up and down. He felt the goosebumps break out and couldn’t help but feel satisfied.

“Now nuzzle your temple up against my chin.”

She did. He caught a whiff of her shampoo and breathed in deeply. “Now talk.”

“I’m not sure how I’m going to be able to keep my train of thought.”

A little groan rumbled from his chest without warning. “It’s just for show.”

“It feels pretty real.”

“Focus.Toby,” he said for himself as much as for her. “What happened?”

It was one thing for him to hold back. She was right that it was distracting as hell to be dancing like this, but knowing it was affecting her was another thing. His cock saidlet’s affect her a whole lot moreand he was sure she didn’t miss that fact.

They were dancing but really barely swaying. They were more or less pressed up against each other in the middle of the floor. But at least they were in public. They were putting on a show and that was keeping him from doing anything stupid. Like sliding the strap of her dress off her shoulder to press his lips there. He kept simply stroking his fingers over her skin instead. But fuck, she smelled good, felt good, and he was sure tasted as good as he imagined. Like everything he ever wanted.
