This day can just go straight to hell. “I’m here. Whatever you need.”

I can’t tell her any of this. I wasn’t sure that I could before, but now? There isn’t a chance in hell I’m putting this on her when she’s worried about her father’s health.

I need a few days to figure out what the hell I’m going to do. I have to make some calls and pull my PI back in. I need solid fucking evidence before a word of this is uttered to anyone.

“Thanks, Andrew, truly. I feel better just by talking to you.”

I wish I could do more. I wish I was there to take her in my arms and comfort her. My chest aches knowing we’re so far away.

“Anytime, Charlotte. I’m always here. For you, I would do anything.” I leave the implication heavy in the air, hoping like hell she can hear the sincerity in my voice.

She sighs, and it sounds only partially relieved. “Do you want to talk now?”

“No, but I already feel better. Hearing your voice is exactly what I needed.”

Her tone lightens, becoming more playful. “Does that mean you’re gonna get your ass out of that bar? Maybe head home so we can have some alone time?”

I smirk at her suggestion. I’m all too eager to forget this shit day and make my girl feel better. I rise from the bar stool and throw down enough to cover my bill and leave a generous tip.

I’m walking toward the door in no time at all. “Give me ten, and I can make that happen, baby.”

Her laugh warms my chest as I make my way down the sidewalk, heading to my apartment. I didn’t drive since I knew I’d most likely have to walk home.

We make idle small talk as I make my way to my apartment building. My steps quicken when I see my building coming into view.

“Do you need to go back to work?”

“No, I’m done for the day.” If I went into the office right now, my brain wouldn’t work for shit. As it is, I probably won’t get much sleep tonight. There are so many things I need to do, avenues I need to check.

“Whatever it is must be bad because you’re day drinking and not going back to work.”

I groan. “That’s not even half of it. When do your parents get into town?” I change the subject as I open the lobby door to my apartment building.

“In a few days. I guess they waited to tell me. So, I’ve been running around my place like a maniac since I got home.”

“If you need to go, I can call you later.”

“Oh no, mister. I’m very much looking forward to the multiple orgasms you have waiting for me.”

I grin. “Oh, presumptuous girl.”

“Not presumptuous, just hopeful,” she says with a seductive lilt to her voice.

I groan. I’m not getting off the phone until she’s spent and sated. Making Charlie come is one of my new favorite past times.

I reach my apartment door in record time, shove the key inside the lock, and open the door. I slam the door closed behind me, wasting no time undoing my belt buckle, popping the button open, and unzipping right after.

Her soft giggle fills the otherwise quiet space, and my heart warms at the sound. “What are you laughing at over there?”

She giggles again. “Sounds like someone is a little excited.”

“Anything to do with you makes me excited,” I say in a rush.

“Andrew Shaw, if I’m not mistaken, it sounds like you may be catching feelings.”

“May be?” I scoff. “I’m already there, honey.”

I’m not even a little self-conscious about it, either. For the first time in a long time, I want something just for myself. She’s mine, and I want it to stay that way.
