He grinned at her. “Yes. They usually do.”

“I am different.”

“We will see.”

“What does that mean?”she demanded.

“Relax, darling, I am not going to try and seduce you into falling in love with me.”

“That is never going to happen.”

He gave her an oblique look. “Was that a challenge?”

“I was just stating a fact.”

“Want to put some money on it? Make it more interesting?”

“No.”

“Afraid you are going to lose?”

“I don’t gamble.”

“Is that the real reason?”

Shoving the glass at him, she inclined her seat. “Shut up and let me get some sleep.”

“Coward," he whispered.

Ignoring him, she closed her eyes and tried to force herself not to notice his scent which was beginning to become familiar.

“Are you sleeping?”

She did not answer.

“I suppose you are.” There was an exaggerated sigh in his deep voice that had her lips twitching. “I suppose I am going to have to stay here with no one to talk to.

Have I told you how lovely you look? The sweater looks great against your skin. I am still trying to decide what it reminds me of. Your skin, not the sweater. Caramel? Hazelnut? What do you think?” he waited for a beat as if he expected an answer from her before continuing.

“I think I am going to go with caramel. And you have long lashes. They make shadows on your cheeks. Am I disturbing you, darling?”

Her eyes popped open and he grinned at the dirty look she gave him. “Why don’t you go and have a conversation with your dad?” she suggested.

“And leave my wife’s side?” he tutted. “I don’t think so.”

“I don’t want to talk to you.”

“That’s fine. I will do most of the talking.”

“You are impossible.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“Oh no. It definitely was not one.”

“I was just checking.” His green eyes twinkled. “Want to watch a movie?”

“If that will shut you up, absolutely.”
