"It seems that way." He rubbed her back tenderly. "I did call the old man."

"I know you did. He thanked me."

"We talked."

"And?" She lifted her head to stare at him.

"It's going to take time, but because of you, I am willing to give it a shot." His green eyes wandered over her face. one that he had grown attached to in an amazingly short time. "I was hurt by him and that kind of pain does not just go away."

"I know."

"I know you do, darling." He cupped her face. "I am here for you. To get us both through the pain of the past. I know I would never be able to make up for—"

"You are doing a great job so far." She smiled at him. "There are rules."

One thick eyebrow arched. "Such as?"

"I am signing a post-nup and I don't want you showering me with expensive gifts. And we remain exclusive. If you cheat on me one time—"

"I won't," he said swiftly.

"It just takes one time for me to get rid of you. I mean wipe you off the face of the earth."

"I got that the first time." There was an amused look on his face. "Anything else?"

She cast him a pained look. "We talk."

"Like we are doing now?"

"I hate when you do that?"

"Do what?" he asked with a quirk of his lips.

"Ask all those questions and in that snotty voice of yours."

"Snotty?"

"Will you just stop it!" her voice rang with exasperation.

"One last query and then I am through. Are you done?"

"I am."

"Good. I don't want you signing a post-nup. The only way you are getting out of this marriage is through death and that is not going to happen for perhaps a hundred years from now."

"Is that so?"

He smiled at that. "Yes. And it is my right as your loving husband to spoil you rotten."

"I don't need spoiling."

"That's exactly why I am going to do it."

"I don't need it."

"I will be the judge of that." Dropping his hands to her neck, he massaged her skin. "Want to talk about it?"

She knew he was referring to her time in the system.
