Oh, my goodness, this had been such a bad idea.As Mitch got in next to her, strange electric vibes filled the small space, making it difficult to concentrate on anything else besides the big man next to her.

Gulping in a deep breath, she looked out of the side window, but his scent had seeped into her pores, making her light-headed, and she couldn’t focus on anything else. The hot, male body next to hers had all her attention.

Fumbling, she took off the warm hat she’d worn. Her hair tumbled down over her shoulders. “I must look a fright.” She tried combing her hair with her fingers, but her fingers were shaking so much, she gave up quickly.

Mitch took her hand. “You look beautiful—you always do. I’m glad you and Annie decided on the idea of skating. It was nice.”

She looked down at the white, frilly blouse with tiny buttons down the front she was wearing underneath her coat. When she’d packed, she’d thought she’d be nursing her aunt back to health, not go on dates. This one was one of her favorites, though, and she felt good in it. With it, she was wearing a pair of colorful hoop earrings she hoped would make her look less pale.

“Dylan so enjoyed it,” Riley said, trying not to look at Mitch but to keep her gaze on the road in front of them. She’d been just about drooling since she’d seen him at Annie’s earlier.

The moment her eyes had met his, her legs turned to rubber. Just looking at him. Dressed in a blue shirt with a pair of tight-fitting denims, he was heart-stoppingly gorgeous. Seriously, she was thirty-two, not thirteen.

“So, how did Dylan’s playdate go yesterday?” Mitch asked as they drove away. “In all the excitement of the skating, I never asked him.”

“Great. Dylan couldn’t stop talking about Mike. Mike this and Mike that—the two had a great time.” Riley smiled. “So, where are we having a drink?” She’d been going for cheerful, but the sound coming out of her mouth was more strangled than happy.

“At my place.”

The words fell into the air around them. They’d be all alone; there wouldn’t be any other family member around. Just the two of them.

She needed to lighten the mood, joke, anything to keep her from doing something stupid. “You actually have glasses and everything?”

He smiled. “I do. I’ll have to get more, but there are at least two chip-free ones we can use.”

Minutes later, they arrived at his house. As Mitch got out of the car, she took another deep breath.Help!

Mitch took her hand, sending a delicious shiver down her spine.

“Are you cold?” he asked as they reached the front door. “It’s nice and warm inside, I promise.”

She couldn’t tell him she wasn’t shivering from cold but from wanting him so badly she could barely see straight.

Inside, it was indeed nice and warm, and she took off her jacket. Mitch had gotten rid of his and reached out to take hers. Their fingers met, and they both froze. Those extraordinary eyes darkened, and the air around them thickened, making breathing difficult.

Without looking at what he was doing, he dropped her jacket, stepped closer. “I want to be with you Riley; I ache for you. It’s not why I’ve brought you here, though, so if…”

Far away, a little voice was trying to warn her, but ignoring it, her hands slipped around his head. “Kiss me, please?” She wanted this, wanted Mitch with an overwhelming desire.

He cupped her face. “With pleasure, ma’am.” For another torturing second, his eyes roamed feverishly over her face before, with a guttural growl, his lips met hers.

With a sigh, she sank into the kiss, reveling in the urgency of his mouth, his rock-hard muscles under her fingers. Within minutes, though, heat slammed into her, sending her blood racing through her body. His intoxicating scent, the urgency of his hands, the sound of his ragged breathing were all sending her senses into overdrive.

His lips slid over her face, kissing, tasting every inch while those clever hands ran over her, torturing her, leaving her aching for him. She was burning up, her heart hammering like a runaway train. It was too much, not nearly enough.

Whimpering, she opened enough buttons on his shirt to be able to touch him. The need to get her hands on him was so overwhelming she’d finally stopped listening to the screaming little voice in her head.

Lifting his head,Mitch gulped in some much-needed oxygen. His hands were unsteady, his body on fire; he’d never wanted anyone this desperately.

“I… bed…” he stammered as she undid another button and pressed her lips against him.

“Too far…” she said in between kisses, her arms sliding around him.

Barking out a laugh, he tugged his shirt over his head.

Sighing, she spread her hands over his abdomen. “Wow, a real six-pack…” she breathed.
