Stacey closed her eyes. You need to make a decision. You need to realize how truly amazing he is and get past your trust issues or continue how you’re acting, and you’ll lose him.

He lightly grasped her arms. She turned toward him. His eyes were soft and filled with emotion. His tender touch warmed her soul.

“Tell me. How did you feel about me, about us, before you knew all this? Be honest.” Tristan asked.

His eyes—were pleading with hers for answers. He had a ridiculous effect on her that made her feel special and important. Her stomach fluttered. She sighed. “I care about you. I’m starting to find it hard to ignore us.”

He squeezed her arms. “So, that shouldn’t change. I’m crazy about you. You, Stacey. I…” He paused and swallowed. “I want to be here, and I want to wake up tomorrow morning and watch you get ready for work.” His hands rubbed her arms. “Don’t make it a big deal. Please.”

She looked at him. At his eyes, at the cheek that has the crease when he smiles. She ran her hands through his hair. She leaned in and kissed him with a hunger, a need. She needed him. She needed this. “It’s not a big deal. Sorry I acted that way. There’s nothing I want more than us to be together.”

Their lips linked and came together like magnets. She lost herself in the kiss, in him. She felt how much he wanted to be with her, how much he cared.

“Tristan.” Her words were lost as she melted into his gaze. Their kiss deepened until they were on the bed.

Their hands were exploring, and everywhere he touched, her skin turned to fire. He felt how much she needed him, how much she wanted him. Her body was tingling. Their kisses were devouring. Her heart was throbbing.

They rode the wave of satisfaction all the way to shore.

Stacey sang under her breath as she rode the elevator up to Labor and Delivery. Thoughts of Tristan clouded her brain and left her giddy all over. She was ten minutes early and needed a quick caffeine jolt since her night was quite the active one. She filled a mug with coffee, added cream and sugar, and leaned against the counter.

She was on cloud nine.

She’s in a relationship. Her. She hadn’t fully admitted that to Tristan yet, but she could to herself, and she would make sure he knew soon. He made her feel important. Respected. Strong. She released a deep sigh of contentment as her lips turned upward.

Karolyn walked in with a few other nurses as everyone was ready to start their shift. She leaned next to Stacey. “So, why do you have that weird grin plastered on your face?”

Stacey glanced over her coffee mug. “What weird grin?”

“The one that makes you look like you just had the most amazing sex of your life.”

Stacey’s face heated.

Karolyn let out a squeal. “Holy shit. It’s because you did just have the most amazing sex of your life, didn’t you? You and that guy you’re seeing.”

Stacey’s eyes went wide.

“Girl!” Karolyn put her coffee down and grabbed her shoulders. “Was it amazing? Hot? Kinky?”

Stacey dropped her jaw. “I’m not giving you details.”

Karolyn flopped against the counter. “I need to know. I’m a mom. We get quickies between naptimes and what little time we have before a little body comes to share our bed. The kink is gone for a while. I need to hear someone is having fun.”

Stacey shot her a Cheshire cat grin. “Let’s just say. It was amazing. It was hot. The shower, the bed.” Stacey paused. “Mostly, though, it was sweet and pretty unforgettable.”

Karolyn sighed and leaned back on the counter. “Wow. You’ve got it bad. I want to hear all about him. Any guy who can light your face up like he has, is someone special, and you deserve special.”

“It’s a date. But not now. We have mommas needing to see us.” Stacey and Karolyn left to start their rounds.

Stacey was having a great day. The moms and babies were all in great spirits today, and time flew by.

“Hi, Stacey.” Stacey looked up from behind the nurses’ station and saw Nancy Trowder leaning on the desk.

“Hi, Nancy.” Stacey finished up what she was typing and pushed out of the chair. The way the woman was standing put her on high alert. “What’s going on?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to catch you and ask you to come see me before you leave. We need to talk. It won’t take long.” She patted her hand on the desk twice and lifted her hand as she left.

“Okay. See you then.”
