She sauntered over to the bed, allowing his eyes to stroll all over her a little longer and take her all in. She took her hand and dragged it slowly from his neck, across his chest to his waist.

He caught it before she could touch other parts and shook his head. “It’s your birthday. I need to give you a present.” He sat up and devoured her mouth with his. Her arms wrapped around his neck and head. He pulled her onto the bed, laying her on her back. His hands traveled over the thin material of the negligee, and they burned a path down her body as they passed over every inch of her, then back up to her neck.

Her breath was hard, and her pulse beat rapidly.

His hand went behind her head, and his lips met hers in a gentle kiss. “You are amazing, Stacey. Thank you for letting me be yours. I…” He hesitated, and his gaze fixed to hers, his eyes a deep smoky gray.

Her breath froze. Her heart swelled. Her emotions were spinning out of control. Just being here with him wasn’t enough. She needed more.

“I’m glad you chose us.” His hand lifted her face to his. The kiss was intense, like nothing before. There was still something left unsaid.

She loved him. That thought caught her by surprise. She breathed in. She couldn’t move. Did she? She’s never felt this before. She didn’t know.

“Stace? You okay? I’m sorry if I..” He pulled away.

She placed her fingers over his mouth. “Don’t. You don’t need to be sorry for anything, Tristan. Give me a second.” Her heart was going to explode. She had to tell him. Her hazel eyes searched his and held them tight. She didn’t love. She didn’t do relationships—in the past—but she did now. She did with him. “I love you.” The words escaped from her mouth almost in a whisper.

His eyes moved and searched hers. A smile grew on his lips. “What? Really?”

Stacey closed her eyes and searched her soul. That was a surprise, but was it true? What did she feel now?

She felt calm. Happy. Relaxed. Secure.

She may have sworn off love and relationships because of her past, but she’s never known love like Tristan. Her face glowed. “Yes, Tristan. I love you.”

He pressed his mouth to hers and really kissed her. If this was what love feels like as a kiss, she never wanted to feel another kiss again. Her insides ignited like sparks to a flame. Her heart was jolted back alive, and it beat to a new rhythm.

A Tristan rhythm. A rhythm that put all her nerve endings on high alert. A rhythm that healed her heart.

“Stacey, I’ve been trying so hard not to say those words, scared I’d frighten you away. I love you, too.”

She lifted her lips to his, and the kiss became intense.

The negligée was quickly yanked over her head and thrown off to the side.

He kissed every part of her body. And every piece of skin his lips touched continued to ignite. First her neck, then down her chest to her breasts, first the left one, then he moved to the right. He continued kissing down her stomach to the sensitive area between her thighs. There, he stayed, and sent her to heaven until she had all she could take.

His lips dragged back up slowly, taking his time once again, until he finally found her mouth. Her hands squeezed his tight butt cheeks, and she guided him inside her.

His eyes held hers, and they made love with their gaze, never leaving each other. It was the most amazing sex Stacey could ever remember.

When they were finished, they laid together, his arms around her and his hands in her hair, combing the strands from her face. Her body was weak, her legs shaking.

Stacey’s ear was against his chest, and she listened to his heart. He was amazing. This was perfect.

He kissed her temple, and she felt him stiffen beneath her, and his breathing changed. She leaned up to get a better view of him. “Is everything okay?” Her hand went up to brush the creases between his eyes. Tristan combed some hair behind her ear and held her face in his hand. He was silent for a beat.

Her heart gave a hard thump. There’s something wrong.

He finally shook his head. “It’s nothing. I just can’t believe you told me you love me.”

That was it. Her heart went back to a regular rhythm. Of course, she loved him. “What is there not to love? I’m just sorry it took me so long to put my junk in the past.” She kissed him tenderly.

Their foreheads touched when they pulled away, their connection broken. “I love you, Stacey. Happy birthday, gorgeous.” He pressed her mouth to his and held her in a tight embrace.

God, she loved him. She loved being here with him. She was so glad he was hers.

She rolled over, and he tucked his arms tightly around her. She could stay here wrapped in him forever.
